Role Overview
We are looking for a qualified Management Accountant to play a key role in the finance function, supporting both UK and US operations. The role combines traditional management accounting responsibilities with team leadership, strong technical accounting oversight and commercial financial analysis within a fast-growing e-commerce and retail environment.
The successful candidate will take ownership of the management accounts process, oversee transactional finance, manage cash flow forecasting and ensure strong financial controls across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting
* Own the preparation of monthly management accounts for the UK and US entities.
* Produce P&L, balance sheet and cash flow reports with detailed variance analysis.
* Lead the month-end close process, including journals, accruals and prepayments.
* Review and maintain balance sheet reconciliations.
Financial Planning & Analysis
* Provide variance analysis against budgets and forecasts.
* Analyse sales, margins and product performance across channels.
* Support pricing, promotions and commercial decision making through financial insight.
* Assist with the preparation of annual budgets and rolling forecasts.
* Work with department heads to develop accurate financial projections.
* Monitor financial performance and identify risks or opportunities.
* Support inventory and stock management analysis.
International Finance
* Support financial reporting across the UK and US entities.
* Manage intercompany accounting and reconciliations where applicable.
* Liaise with external advisors where required in relation to US operations.
Controls & Process Improvement
* Contribute to the continued development of finance systems and reporting processes.
* Identify opportunities to improve financial controls and reporting efficiency.
* Work with finance systems including Xero and Linnworks (knowledge of these systems would be an advantage).
* Oversee monthly payroll process, including liaising with payroll providers, producing payroll journals and ensuring payroll liabilities are correctly accounted and paid for.
General Finance Activities
* Manage and support a small finance team responsible for creditor and debtor ledgers.
* Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes.
* Maintain strong technical accounting standards across finance.
* Preparation of statutory accounts and VAT returns.
* Manage and reconcile intercompany transactions.
* Assist the Head of Finance with any other projects as required.
Candidate Requirements
Qualifications
* ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified (or equivalent)
* Strong technical accounting knowledge.
Experience
* Experience in a management accounting role within a commercial business.
* Experience managing or supervising junior finance staff.
* Experience working within multi-entity businesses, ideally with UK and US operations.
* Experience within retail, e-commerce or consumer goods sectors desirable.
* Exposure to US accounting or finance operations would be advantageous.
* Experience using Xero and Linnworks would be beneficial.
