We are looking for Volunteers to join our team as Ward Support volunteers on Maple A at the Cumberland Infirmary.

Ward volunteers provide companionship and support to patients some of whom maybe in hospital for a long period of time. As a ward volunteer you will help to provide a variety of activities for patients such as playing board games, reading or general conversation.

Volunteers also assist with the mealtimes and this includes preparing the patient for their meal, distributing the meals and sitting with a patient and helping with cutting food, opening cartons and making the meal a social occasion. Some patients require extra help and as a volunteer you can assist with feeding patients.

Times available:

Monday 1 x person Morning or Afternoon

Friday 1 x person Morning or Afternoon

You must be 18 years old or over to volunteer on a ward and live within the local Cumberland.

What tasks can this role include?

Greeting patients & visitors

Take direction from staff as to which patients require assistance

Provide practical support such as making tea/coffee & toast

Chatting to patients and helping them feel at ease

Make staff aware immediately if a patient has any clinical concern

Tasks NOT to be undertaken

Manual handling of patients

Pushing patients or visitors in wheelchairs

Personal Care

Taking patient to the toilet

Clinical duties

Disclosure and Barring Service:

On 28 November 2020, the new Disclosure and Barring Service filtering rules will come into effect.

The changes mean that:

youth cautions, reprimands and final warnings will no longer be subject to automatic disclosure

the multiple conviction rule has been removed, meaning that if an individual has more than one conviction, regardless of offence type or time passed, each conviction will be considered against the remaining rules individually, rather than being automatically disclosed.
