Role Summary The Retail Asset Protection Officer plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of M&S Food stores, customers, and colleagues. This includes deterring criminal activity, managing incidents professionally, and fostering a safe shopping environment. The officer is expected to act as a visible deterrent, respond to emergencies, and collaborate with store management and law enforcement to reduce crime and loss. Key Accountabilities Protect customers and colleagues from physical and verbal abuse. Deter violence, public order offences, till snatchers and other types of thefts. Patrol the store and surrounding areas, conducting checks per site assignment instructions. Record suspicious activity and inform store management. Handle difficult situations safely and professionally. Operate and monitor Surveillance systems. Monitor store CCTV and conduct retrospective reviews focused on shrinkage. Maintain a clean and professional appearance, wearing full uniform, valid SIA licence, and identity badge. Liaise with store management and provide clear, concise feedback. Collaborate with Police and crime partnerships to support crime reduction. Complete reports, documenting observations, occurrences, and surveillance activities. Utilise all equipment and technology to maximise impact on security and loss prevention. Report all incidents by the end of the shift. Wear and activate BWCCTV in accordance with company procedures. Identify and rectify behaviours and situations that endanger health, safety, and wellbeing of others. Skills / Experience and Attributes we are looking for Frontline Security Guarding, Door Supervision or Close Protection SIA licence (or valid training certificates). A full five-year checkable employment/education history. Experience in delivering excellent customer service. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Adaptable communication style for different audiences. Ability to work in a fast-paced service environment. Proficiency in using technology. Good attention to detail. High level of enthusiasm and passion. Previous experience in a similar role is desirable but not essential. Public Space Surveillance SIA licence is desirable but not essential. Additional Comments Please note that current employees may apply for this role; however, it will involve taking on the outlined responsibilities in addition to their existing Customer Assistant duties. A shift premium of £0.25 per hour will be applied. Full training will be provided to successful candidates to ensure they are equipped for the role.
