IT Service Designer
Location: Gloucester or Central London – on‑site five days per week.
Security Clearance: Candidates must be eligible for or hold SC or DV clearance and must be a sole UK national/British citizen who has resided in the UK for ten years or more.

Role Responsibilities
* Design end‑to‑end IT services across on‑premise and AWS private cloud environments to meet functional and non‑functional requirements.
* Define service models, boundaries, dependencies and integration points.
* Ensure services are designed across the full service lifecycle: strategy, design, transition, operation and continual improvement.
* Produce and maintain service design artefacts including service definitions, service models, blueprints, catalogue offerings, acceptance criteria and operational handover documentation.
* Support drafting of and negotiations for underpinning service contracts.
* Design application‑hosting services for legacy on‑prem platforms while supporting migration and modernisation into AWS private cloud.
* Contribute to the development of standardised repeatable cloud service offerings.
* Collaborate with cloud engineering and architecture teams to align designs with cloud standards, patterns and governance.
* Support the organisation’s move towards a cloud‑orchestration model, enabling self‑service and automated service provisioning.
* Ensure that operational requirements (availability, capacity, continuity, security, monitoring, support and recovery) are built into services from the outset.
* Collaborate with Service Operations to ensure smooth service transitions and effective handover to live support teams.
* Define support models, SLAs, OLAs, runbooks and escalation paths.
* Participate in service acceptance and readiness reviews.
* Ensure services comply with organisational policies, security standards and regulatory requirements.
* Embed risk management, resilience and security‑by‑design principles into service designs.
* Support cost transparency and financial management by helping develop cost models and chargeback/show‑back solutions.
* Act as a bridge between business stakeholders, product teams, engineers, operations, suppliers and vendors.
* Translate business/service requirements into consumable, supportable service designs.
* Provide service design expertise to Agile delivery teams and participate as a team member in ceremonies as required.
* Review live services to identify opportunities for optimisation, standardisation and automation.
* Contribute to continual service improvement initiatives across both on‑prem and cloud services.
* Support rationalisation of legacy services where appropriate.

Desirable Skills and Technologies
* Strong experience in IT Service Design within complex enterprise environments.
* Practical knowledge of ITIL (v3 or v4) service design and service management practices.
* Understanding of AWS cloud services, particularly in private or controlled cloud environments.
* Experience designing services across hybrid on‑prem and cloud infrastructures.
* Ability to design services with a strong focus on operability, resilience and supportability.
* Experience working within Agile delivery environments, collaborating with product and engineering teams.
* Strong documentation writing and service modelling skills.
* Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
* Experience in organisations transitioning to cloud orchestration or service brokerage models.
* Familiarity with DevSecOps, automation and Infrastructure as Code concepts.
* Experience with service catalogues, CMDBs and service management tooling.
* Knowledge of financial management for IT services (cost modelling, chargeback/show‑back).
* Exposure to security, compliance and risk frameworks within cloud environments.
* Proven experience in a Service Designer, Service Architect or similar role.
* Experience supporting application hosting services (on‑prem and/or cloud).
* ITIL qualification (v3 or v4).
* AWS certification or demonstrable AWS experience.
* Experience working in large, highly‑regulated or multi‑supplier environments.
