An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Lung Cancer Screening team in Birmingham & Solihull.
Lung Cancer Screening will be rolled out to all residents of Birmingham & Solihull over the next 5 years. This programme targets individuals aged 55 to 74 years with a history of smoking. The goal is to achieve early diagnosis in 75% of cases, thus improving health outcomes for our population.
This innovative programme has been successfully delivered for the last 2 years in East Birmingham, achieving a remarkable 76% of cancers diagnosed at stages 1 & 2.
As we expand to the wider population, we are seeking a key member to join our team. As the Lung Cancer Screening Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in supporting and managing patients with suspected cancer with empathy and efficiency.
The successful candidate will work closely with the MDT, receiving reports and alerts from scanning. You will utilise local and national systems to manage patient records, facilitate MDT meetings, and serve as a point of contact for patients.
The ideal candidate will have experience and knowledge of lung cancer pathways and possess skills in time management and efficient administration in a healthcare setting, with a passion for improving patient care.
The post holder will be required to work across a variety of sites in the ICB, enabling them to develop relationships with key personnel, stakeholders, and national teams, gaining confidence in communication and autonomy.
Main duties of the job
* The safe and efficient management of patients referred from Lung Cancer Screening, and associated duties.
* Manage, track & facilitate pt. reports
* Compile and present reports for MDT
* Actively track and monitor pt. outcomes
* Administration of pt. referrals to national Cancer registry
* Administration of pt. in local & provider PAS
* Provide administrative support to clinicians, i.e. completing letters required for GP records & requesting GP records
* First point of contact for patients via phone & email
* Use knowledge & experience gained to identify service improvements
* Liaise with MDT to respond to provider query's in pt. pathways
* Complete monthly audits of activity & outcomes
* liaise with key stakeholders & providers to ensure adherence to standard protocol
* escalate to programme management issues or concerns
* ensure all activity is in line with local and national protocols
* Support completion of Monthly, quarterly and annual audits.

Qualifications
* GCSE or equivalent to Level 2 Functional Skills Maths & English
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* NVQ 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent
Experience
* Demonstrates previous experience of working in an NHS/ Healthcare clinical setting
* Demonstrates evidence of working with patients
* Experience of working within a cancer or respiratory care setting
* Evidence of good communication skills with both patients and clinicians
* Experience of working in a national screening programme
Skill
* Recognises own limitations, and how to escalate challenges.
