Overview

Senior Technical Recruiter - WMS, Intralogistics, Software, Automation & Robotics. 15+ years experience.

Main Purpose of the Job:

The principal role of the Fitter is to assemble mechanical products to ensure on time, on budget delivery to a standard of excellence.


Key Responsibilities and KPI’s

* Assemble mechanical products in accordance with drawings, specifications and build procedures
* You should always work to an assembly drawing where possible for existing machines.
* In the absence of the assembly drawings, research other sources e.g.: photographs, historic knowledge and inform the Production Supervisor who will assist.
* All the parts in the kit should be used and the product fully finished and Quality Assured ready for use.
* Screws should be checked and parts adjusted before completion.
* A ECR should be raised for missing or additional components in conjunction with the Quality Manager
* Parts that are manufactured incorrectly should be immediately highlighted to the Quality Manager and a Non conformance or Reject note should be completed by the fitter.

Build Sheet Process

* Use builds sheets to ensure times and processes of build are adhered to making notes as required.
* Build sheets should be used at all times except when specifically instructed by the Shop floor Manager or a Director
* Fitters should sign/stamp each operation on the build sheet as it is completed.
* Record both time and any notes that are relevant to either the next person doing the same work or where difficulties have been encountered resulting in extra work and / or time.
* Raise Engineering Change Report’s (ECR’s) accordingly when designs have errors and in line with the Production Supervisor's instructions.
* Raise ECR’s when errors are found with design or bills of materials.
* Supporting documents such as drawings, BOM’s and pictures should be attached when required or referenced

Modifications

* Offer Ideas/innovate ways of improving the machine design/functionality/performance; challenge the norm.
* Make modifications in conjunction with the design team, during build to facilitate the customer’s requirements. This is especially relevant with regard to new machine designs.
* Design should be involved in any modification to the design of the machines so that impacts on operation and safety can be considered.
* Notes should be taken by the fitter to document this and where required ECR’s should be raised by the fitter.

Manufacture bespoke parts

* Manufacture/modify bespoke parts in our machine shop when required considering safety of yourself and others
* Parts should not be modified on the shop floor when it will cause disturbance, noise or dirt. This work should be done outside or in the machine shop (this includes grinding, sanding and similar processes)
* When manufacturing parts or as agreed with the Production Supervisor you should have skills and Training required operating any machines being used and a clear idea of how to achieve the correct result.
* Relevant Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) should be used at all times – refer to specific Risk Assessments.
* Any ECR’s should be passed to the Quality Manager for processing.

Systems

* Use the Factory Master Data Capture to record time worked on each job.
* Always ensure you are booked onto the correct Works Order by scanning the barcode on the Route card
* Ensure that you clock in and clock out immediately before you start assembly and immediately at the end of work.
* Ensure when not working directly on a Job that you book onto an alternative number
* Ensure any overtime is captures each month and signed off by the Factory Manager/Operations Director.

House Keeping

* Waste should be removed daily and placed in the relevant bin, using recycling bins where appropriate.
* Work benches should be kept clear and only the current job being worked on should be on the bench
* Tools should be kept in good condition and any problems reported to the Production Supervisor
* Fitters are responsible for the whole factory and not just their own current working area and should take responsibility for this along with the Production Supervisor.
* Parts in kits should be kept in excellent condition and parts should be protected from damage at all times
* Parts should never be left on the floor or in other inappropriate places that may cause damage, degradation or a safety risk
* Consumables such as adhesives, tapes, cleaners and other items should be returned to the consumable stores when not in use.
* Any parts left after building an assembly or sub assembly should be identified with the part number and WO and returned with the BOM to the Production Supervisor for restocking (Goods In).
* Floor should be kept swept and clean by the fitter in the working areas

Quality

* You should be able to complete the work assigned in the indicated time
* Review the build sheet for any indication of assigned time for machine build.
* Work to deadlines and changing priorities whilst maintaining a high standard.
* Any build sheets that indicate an unrealistic build times need to be discussed with the Production Supervisor at the earliest opportunity.
* Overtime may be required to meet the business needs, if requested overtime will be paid and needs to be captured each month and signed off by factory manager/Operations Director for payroll.
* Monitor quality and ensure that all areas meet company standards and are in line with quality assurance sheets.
* Fitter must inspect their own work as they build and ensure their work is in line with the agreed QA standards.
* Paint and other finishes should be protected during build to avoid any damage to the machine.
* Any quality issues should be immediately highlighted to the Quality Manager immediately

Teamwork

* Work with the installation and commissioning engineers to assist with site installations/service visit as and when required.

Key Competencies / Experience

* Proven track record in mechanical fitting and assembly.
* Excellent problem solver, innovative and creative thinker.
* Self-motivated, self-starting and highly organized with the ability to work unsupervised.
* Ability to work on a variety of projects of varying duration.
* Adaptable to change, resilient, with a dynamic approach and ability to challenge the norm.
* Familiar with quality within projects ideally worked with ISO standards.
* Understanding of Health and Safety at work.

Skills / Experience Desired

Fitters with full machine build experience and have used/built/have knowledge of the following:-

* Build new machinery to General Arrangement drawings
* Rolling element bearings, shafts (limits and fits)
* Plain bearings
* Ball screws, lead screws, etc.
* Chain and sprocket drives
* Belt and pulley drive systems
* Pneumatic components and systems
* Sensors – ultrasonic, reflective, laser, etc (mechanical fitment only)
* Motor and gearbox fitting
* Work to budget assembly hours
* Ability to use hand tools, power tools, basic machine shop machinery (e.g. lathe, miller, pedestal drill, grinder)
* Keen eye for quality of finished product (painting, powder coating, anodising, phosphating, zinc plating, etc.)
* Ability to use measuring equipment (verniers, slip gauges, micrometers, etc)
* Work within a QMS maintaining relevant documentation & control (following & signing off build sheets, filling out ECR’s, etc)
