Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Pattern: 4x Flex (4-day week, Monday–Thursday)

The Role
We are seeking a CNC Machinist Specialist to join our client’s precision CNC machining operation at Ampthill. This is a senior, hands-on role suited to an experienced machinist with strong programming capability and extensive multi-axis machining experience.
You will be responsible for programming, setting, proving out, and operating a range of advanced CNC milling and turning machines (3 to 6 axis), producing high-value R&D, one-off, and low-volume precision components in support of complex defence programmes.
Key Responsibilities:
Program, set, prove out, and operate CNC milling and turning machines in a precision machining environment.
Select, optimise, and manage tooling to ensure high-quality and efficient machining performance.
Manufacture high-value R&D, one-off, and low-volume production components to exacting standards.
Support and contribute to the development of machining processes, tooling strategies, and fixture design.
Liaise with tooling suppliers to optimise tooling selection and design solutions.
Mentor, coach, and train colleagues, including apprentices, as required.
Work accurately from engineering drawings, specifications, and documented procedures.
Diagnose machining and process issues and support corrective action and continuous improvement plans.
Prioritise workload effectively to meet delivery commitments and optimise machine utilisation.
Required Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Demonstrable experience within a precision CNC machining environment.
Strong hands-on CNC milling experience (essential).
CNC turning experience (highly desirable).
Proficient in CNC programming and post-processing using Fanuc, Siemens, and Heidenhain control systems.
Working knowledge of CAD/CAM software such as EdgeCAM, MasterCAM, Fusion 360, or equivalent.
Experience in multi-axis machining techniques (3 to 5 axis).
Strong understanding of inspection techniques and use of precision measuring equipment.
Confident reading and interpretation of complex engineering drawings and process documentation
