Become part of making the impossible possible.
About the role:
The Cloud Architect & Governance Lead is accountable for defining, owning, and evolving the organization’s enterprise cloud architecture and governance model. This role ensures that cloud platforms are secure, compliant, cost controlled, and scalable, while enabling delivery teams to innovate at speed within clearly defined guardrails.
Acting as the senior technical authority for cloud platform design and governance, the role balances architectural leadership, governance enforcement, and cross functional influence, working closely with Security, IT Operations, Finance, and Engineering teams.
This is a platform level leadership role, not a delivery engineer position.
What you’ll be doing:
1. Maintain target-state architecture (landing zones, shared services, subscriptions, environment standards) and approve reference designs, patterns, and non-functional requirements
2. Act as final decision-maker for cloud architecture standards, exceptions, and unresolved technical conflicts
3. Chair or contribute to Architecture Review Boards and Cloud Governance bodies.
4. Establish policies, standards, guardrails, and automated policy-as-code controls aligned to corporate, regulatory, and security requirements
5. Partner with Cyber Security and Compliance to ensure regulatory alignment (e.g., ISO 27001, NIS2, CRA equivalents), manage cloud risk, and ensure controls are designed in by default
6. Enforce tagging, budgeting, and cost transparency standards; embed cost efficiency into architecture decisions in partnership with Finance
7. Establish roles, RACI, and decision rights across Architecture, Security, Operations, Finance, and Delivery; provide guidance to accelerate compliant cloud adoption
8. Maintain architecture documentation, evolve governance with business and technology changes, and remain accountable for governance and architecture across Malvern Panalytical’s global cloud platforms impacting all employees and customers
About you:
9. Proven experience designing and governing platform-level cloud architectures in complex, regulated environments (not just application solutions).
10. Deep understanding of cloud security, risk, and regulatory compliance principles.
11. Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure (essential) and familiarity with Amazon Web Services and other platforms; exposure to hybrid and multi-cloud environments desirable.
12. Experience implementing governance via policy as code, infrastructure as code, and automated controls; awareness of FinOps and financial governance practices.
13. Experience contributing to or supporting internal and external cloud audits.
14. Ability to lead and influence across security, engineering, operations, and finance, with strong communication skills and senior stakeholder engagement.
15. Demonstrated ability to prioritise effectively, meet deadlines, work independently and collaboratively, and coach or mentor others.
16. 8+ years in hands-on cloud roles (Cloud Engineer/Architect or Enterprise Architect), recent leadership of cloud governance or adoption transformation, with certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305) or AWS Solutions Architect – Professional (SAP-C02) desirable.
