Overview

Are you highly organised, eager to learn, and looking to build your career in a regulatory, investigative, or compliance‑focused environment?

As an Assistant Green Claims Officer, you will play an important role in helping Buckinghamshire Council recover costs where damage has been caused to the highway network by road traffic collisions. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys administrative precision, problem‑solving, and working with a diverse range of internal and external partners.

About us

Buckinghamshire Council is a relatively new organisation that combines the strengths and expertise of the previous five councils in the county to create positive change for local people, communities, and businesses. We are firmly focused on the future and have made a clear commitment to serve residents better and to provide stronger representation for Buckinghamshire, both locally and nationally.

Highways and Technical Services play a vital role in supporting our communities, keeping the county moving and ensuring our transport network is safe, resilient and well‑managed. The Green Claims function ensures the Council can recover costs from third parties, helping to safeguard public funds and maintain the condition of our highways. When you join our team, you’ll be part of a supportive environment that values expertise, encourages learning, and promotes forward‑thinking approaches to managing our highways.

As part of our ambition to deliver the very best highways service for Buckinghamshire, we have recently reshaped our service, creating a stronger, more resilient and forward‑looking structure. This transformation reflects both local priorities and significant national developments in the sector. With new initiatives emerging, including the introduction of Lane Rental and wider changes to streetworks and network management, we are now investing in a range of new and exciting roles that will help us meet the needs of our communities today and into the future. These posts offer a genuine opportunity to shape how we manage and improve our network, drive innovation.

About the role

In this role, you will support the investigation and processing of Green Claims following highway damage incidents. You’ll gather evidence, maintain accurate records, prepare documentation and liaise with insurers, contractors and enforcement partners to bring claims to resolution.

Key Responsibilities

1. Organise and complete allocated workloads within agreed deadlines.
2. Research and gather information to support claims and investigations.
3. Help identify compliance or legal issues, escalating where necessary.
4. Collate, check and process evidence using council systems and procedures.
5. Maintain clear and accurate digital and written records.
6. Support the preparation of reports, letters and other documentation.
7. Liaise professionally with insurance companies, contractors and Thames Valley Police.
8. Provide clear, accurate advice to internal and external customers.
9. Assist with preparing documentation for inquiries or court proceedings.
10. Attend site visits (with support) to collect evidence and assess highway damage.
11. Work collaboratively with colleagues across the wider team.

About you

You’re someone who enjoys getting stuck into detailed work, staying organised, and helping things run smoothly. You’re curious, eager to learn, and ready to build your skills in a role where no two days are the same. You have a natural eye for accuracy, whether you’re gathering information, keeping records up to date, or helping prepare reports and correspondence. Confident communicating with people at all levels, you’re comfortable speaking with colleagues, insurance companies, contractors and members of the public, always showing professionalism and a friendly approach. Most importantly, you bring a positive attitude, strong ICT skills, and the willingness to grow into the role.
