Are you passionate about protecting public health and ensuring food safety standards are upheld? Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking a skilled and motivated Environmental Health Officer to join our Food Safety team.
As an Environmental Health Officer (Food Safety), you will play a key role in delivering professional regulatory advice, enforcing food hygiene and food standards legislation, and supporting the Council’s public health priorities. You’ll carry out a range of interventions including inspections, audits, sampling, advisory visits, and promotional activities. You’ll also investigate offences, issue legal notices, and prepare prosecution files where necessary.
What we’re looking for
* A qualified EHO with a Degree in Environmental Health or equivalent, and registration with the Environmental Health Registration Board
* Demonstrable experience in food safety enforcement and knowledge of relevant legislation and codes of practice
* Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex regulatory requirements to a range of audiences
* Investigative and analytical skills, with experience in preparing legal documentation and taking enforcement action
* A proactive approach to continuous professional development and keeping up to date with guidance from agencies such as the Food Standards Agency and UKHSA
* Ability to work flexibly across the Borough and participate in occasional out-of-hours work, including emergency response and noise service rotas (paid at an agreed rate)

Until 31st March 2026 employees paid at Band D and above are subject to a temporary pay reduction of 1.15% spread out by means of a monthly deduction from each pay period over the full financial year. In recognition of implementing this temporary measure, those who experience a pay reduction will be awarded three additional days leave (pro rata for part-time).
