About the School
Our partner school in King's Lynn provides specialist education for pupils aged 4 to 16 with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. The school offers a structured, therapeutic environment that helps children develop emotional regulation, resilience and a positive approach to learning.
The primary phase supports younger pupils in small classes, typically with high levels of adult support and access to dedicated spaces such as sensory and calm rooms. Each day begins with wellbeing check-ins and opportunities to build trust and confidence. The setting is designed for children who may have faced challenges in mainstream education and require additional social and emotional support to succeed.
This is a rewarding role for a skilled and patient classroom practitioner who can deliver engaging, differentiated lessons while maintaining strong, supportive relationships with pupils and colleagues.
The Role
The Year 5 Classroom Teacher will work within the primary SEMH team to deliver the National Curriculum in a way that is accessible, engaging and meaningful to every pupil. The role combines high-quality teaching with pastoral care and therapeutic understanding.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan, deliver and evaluate lessons that meet the needs of pupils with SEMH and associated learning needs.
Adapt the curriculum to ensure accessibility for all pupils while maintaining high expectations for progress.
Provide a consistent and calm classroom environment where routines and boundaries support emotional regulation.
Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, and external agencies to develop holistic support plans.
Assess and track pupil progress in academic, social and emotional development.
Contribute to EHCP reviews, care plans and safeguarding documentation.
Promote positive behaviour through restorative practice and a trauma-informed approach.
Person Specification
Essential:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Experience teaching in a primary setting
Understanding of SEMH and the impact of adverse childhood experiences on learning
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Resilience, patience and the ability to adapt to changing situations
Desirable:
Previous experience in a special school, alternative provision or SEMH environment
Training in trauma-informed practice, Team Teach or similar behaviour-support approaches
Knowledge of the Thrive Approach, Zones of Regulation or similar wellbeing frameworks
