About the Role
Large Volume Inorganic Chemicals (LVIC) installations are required to use ‘Best Available Techniques’ (BAT) to reduce emissions to air, water and land. The UK BAT Author leads the definition of BAT within the UK, applying a transparent, collaborative, data‑driven process that upholds the highest levels of environmental protection. You will draft BAT Conclusions, liaise with technical working groups and present a final document suitable for publication as a new, UK‑wide environmental standard for industry.
Key Responsibilities
* Draft BAT Conclusions and technical documents.
* Liaise with Technical Working Groups to gather and analyse data.
* Ensure documents meet publication standards and are suitable as industry‑wide environmental regulations.
* Apply specialist knowledge of the LVIC industry and process engineering.
* Utilise environmental legislation and UK policy to inform BAT proposals.
* Demonstrate critical analysis of technical arguments and data.
* Manage projects and drive completion within set timelines.
* Travel and overnight stays may be required to support engagement with stakeholders.
Qualifications and Experience
* At least 5 years’ working experience in environmental regulation within the LVIC industry.
* Solid understanding of the large volume inorganic chemicals industry.
* In‑depth knowledge of UK and EU industrial environmental legislation, including the IED and the Environmental Permitting Regulations.
* Skills in collection and technical analysis of complex industrial data.
* Excellent verbal and written communication, and the ability to write clear, concise technical documents.
* Strong relationship building and stakeholder engagement abilities.
* Effective planning, prioritising, and organisational skills to deliver results on time.
* Adaptability to challenges and building consensus across diverse groups.
