Sitting at the centre of the 1st Line Risk function and reporting directly to the Chief Controls Officer for Asset Management, this role acts as a critical strategic partner - helping shape, influence and elevate the control environment across a complex global organisation.This is a pivotal hire within the management team. The individual will operate as a trusted adviser, senior operator and thought leader, working closely with executives, front‐office leadership, central functions and the Group Risk community to deliver a resilient, well‐governed and sustainably embedded control environment.**Role Overview**You will lead the governance and reporting for Asset Management’s 1st Line Risk team, ensuring transparency, quality and consistency of insight across committees, forums and boards. Alongside this, you will co‐lead the 3‐year Control Enhancement Programme, shaping its delivery, ensuring momentum across workstreams, and enhancing how controls operate day to day across our business.You will have significant exposure to senior stakeholders, complex decision-making forums and broad organisational priorities - offering a unique platform to influence the evolution of risk management in Asset Management.As a central point for many of the firm’s most material risk topics, this role provides direct visibility of Board and Executive priorities. While we are seeking someone with proven Asset Management experience, the role offers a panoramic view across the business and the Lines of Defence, shaping how risks are governed and managed at an enterprise level.**Key Responsibilities****Governance & Reporting Leadership*** Own and oversee all 1st Line Risk reporting submissions to committees, forums and boards, ensuring high‐quality insight, accuracy and timely delivery.* Shape and manage the forward reporting agenda in partnership with senior stakeholders.* Lead the monthly Control Environment reporting cycle across Asset Management, ensuring robust oversight, clear insight, and effective communication of trends, risks and required actions.* Partner with Group and 2nd Line Risk colleagues to validate metrics and support the annual Control Environment assessment.* Oversee the risk and controls agenda across support functions through existing MI and close liaison with risk leads* Present monthly Control Environment insights to executives and senior leadership, providing supporting analysis and recommendations.**Controls & Assurance Oversight*** Lead the annual Key Controls Assessment cycle, ensuring clear planning, strong execution and effective escalation where required.* Oversee progress tracking, issue management and reporting for control testing activities, working closely with 2nd Line and Business Risk Partners.* Strengthen the consistency, quality and sustainability of controls across the Asset Management business.**Control Enhancement Programme*** Co‐lead, with the Chief Controls Officer, the delivery of the Asset Management Control Enhancement Programme - one of the organisation’s most significant multi‐year transformation initiatives.* Work with programme and workstream leads to monitor delivery, resolve issues, escalate barriers, and maintain programme momentum.* Shape and deliver regular programme reporting to senior governance forums and boards.* Represent the 1st Line Risk function at programme working groups, project boards and stakeholder engagements.**Strategic Planning & Leadership Engagement*** Partner with the Chief Controls Officer on key leadership activities including townhalls, offsites and broader team initiatives.* Help shape team direction, ways of working, and a culture of continuous improvement of the 1st Line Risk function.* Act as a senior voice, culture carrier and role‐model across the team.**What You Will Bring*** Strong communicator with the confidence and presence to engage senior stakeholders and articulate complex issues clearly.* Ability to build trusted relationships across functions - including senior executives, front office, operations, technology and control partners.* Strong analytical and problem‐solving skills, with the ability to synthesise information and provide practical, outcome‐oriented recommendations.* A mindset oriented towards continuous improvement, high standards and disciplined execution.* Prior experience within an asset management organisation is essential.* Experience in risk management, controls, operations or front‐office environments is helpful but not required.* Comfortable operating in complex environments, balancing multiple priorities, and influencing without direct authority.Recruiter: Sarah HawkinsWhat we offer:At M&G, we’re committed to helping you thrive and supporting your wellbeing, both at work and beyond.
