Buckinghamshire Council’s Street Scene Team delivers street cleansing and grounds maintenance services across Aylesbury Vale and is currently recruiting for skilled and experienced Grounds Maintenance Operatives.
About us
Buckinghamshire Council is a relatively new organisation that combines the strengths and expertise of the previous five councils in the county to create positive change for local people, communities, and businesses. We are focused on the future and committed to serving residents better and providing stronger representation for Buckinghamshire, both locally and nationally.
About the role
The Street Scene team, covering Aylesbury Vale, seeks front-line staff dedicated to providing high-quality services and helping deliver our future plans.
Grounds maintenance services focus on providing quality and safe green spaces to local communities. With several Green Flag status parks, we work closely with our Council colleagues to deliver operational services aligned with park management plans.
If you enjoy working outdoors, have an eye for detail, take pride in your work and the local area, then this could be just the job for you!
You will be responsible for delivering front-line grounds maintenance services. You should be reliable, proactive, and committed to working safely. Excellent training opportunities are available, and the Council is dedicated to supporting your continuous personal development.
All personal protective equipment and clothing will be provided. Working mainly independently, you will perform a range of street cleansing duties, including:
* Grass cutting
* Shrub bed maintenance, in formal and informal areas
* Hedge cutting
* Weed management
* Operating, maintaining, and cleaning grounds maintenance and horticultural equipment, such as hand tools, strimmers, hedge-cutters, pedestrian and ride-on mowers, and other machinery
* Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, including the Vibration at Work Regulations 2005 and PUWER Regulations 1998
* Maintaining and preparing sports pitches, including grass cutting, line marking, and erecting sports equipment
* Maintaining artificial sports pitches
* Horticultural operations like planting, pruning, and maintenance of trees and shrubs
The work is outdoors year-round, in all weather conditions.
As a ‘fixed’ worker, you’ll spend most of your time at a specific location, such as an office or operational site, providing particular services from that location or needing access to information there.
About you
Applicants should have grounds maintenance experience, including the use of relevant machinery and equipment like ride-on mowers and hand tools. Experience with Local Authority contracts or in-house services is advantageous.
You should have good communication skills, be able to use initiative, follow instructions, and be a quick learner and team player.
A horticultural qualification such as NVQ Amenity Horticulture (or equivalent), Pesticide (PA1 and PA6), or LANTRA/NPTC horticultural qualifications would be advantageous.
A full UK driving license is essential.
