Teacher of Deaf Children and Young People (TOD)

Service: Inclusion Support Services – Targeted and Specialist Support

Directorate: Children’s Services

Salary: MPS/UPS + SEN 2

Derbyshire County Council is seeking a dedicated and skilled Teacher of Deaf Children and Young People (TOD) to join our Inclusion Support Services team on a fixed‑term maternity cover basis.

This post is available to start as soon as possible. The role is for 3 days per week, although applications for a proportion of this time will be considered.

This specialist advisory role supports deaf children and young people aged 0–25 across Derbyshire, working in partnership with families, early years settings, schools and other professionals to promote inclusion, access to learning and positive outcomes.


About the role

You will:

* Provide specialist advice and support to deaf children and young people and their families
* Work collaboratively with schools and settings to model inclusive practice and effective strategies
* Support communication, language development and access to the curriculum
* Advise on audiological and specialist equipment in partnership with audiology services
* Contribute to EHCP advice, written reports and service impact information
* Deliver training and deaf awareness to staff and key adults
* Work flexibly across the county as part of a multi‑disciplinary inclusion service


About you

You will be:

* A qualified teacher with experience of supporting deaf children and young people in educational settings
* Confident in working collaboratively with families, schools and partner agencies
* Skilled in communication and able to adapt approaches to meet individual needs
* Committed to inclusive practice, safeguarding and equality
* Willing to undertake (or already hold) a recognised qualification for teaching deaf children and young people
* BSL Level 1 (or above)
