Overview

Part-Time (0.5 FTE). Fixed Term (36 months). Applications are invited for the post of Professor of Molecular Therapies in the Department of Biological Sciences. This is a part-time role at 0.5 FTE and is for the fixed term of 36 months. The position is available from 1 October 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.


Responsibilities

* Demonstrate an outstanding track record in the field of molecular therapies for human rare disease, specifically neurofibromatosis type 1, with an international reputation evidenced by an excellent publication record and substantial grant income.
* Show experience with licensing of patents and be a named inventor; secure funded international collaborations enabling research towards clinical application of molecular therapies to treat neurofibromatosis type 1.
* Demonstrate experience with the Human Tissue Authority, Health and Safety, and research ethics.
* Train the next generation of scientists with a successful record of supervising PhD students to completion.
* Contribute to teaching in the Department through engaging lectures and practicals, particularly for Biomedical Sciences degree students; evidence of teaching with excellent student feedback.
* Liaise with clinical colleagues in local hospitals and others in the biopharmaceutical industry as part of module leadership; run undergraduate projects and provide personal tutoring.
* Contribute to the MSc by Research postgraduate course and assist with department administration as required by the Head of Department, including contributing to Rare Disease Day.


Teaching and supervision

* Provide engaging lectures and practicals and supervise undergraduate projects; contribute to personal tutoring and MSc by Research course supervision.


Administration and service

* Contribute to department administration as required by the Head of Department, including events such as Rare Disease Day.
