Look no further! We are delighted to be recruiting for a Handyperson to join our successful and hardworking Home Improvement Agency service here at Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, based at Cowpen Depot.
About Us
Our Home Improvement Agency (HIA) service was created to help residents stay safe and independent in their homes by providing support with small DIY jobs and minor adaptations. From installing grab rails to constructing steps at addresses, we make a big impact through the little things.
Our service keeps going from strength to strength, with the impact we make to the lives of our residents continuing to grow. Further information about our service can be found.
About the Role
We are looking for a Handyperson who can undertake minor adaptations and basic handyperson works. You will undertake a range of trade skills such as basic joinery, brickwork and installing adaptation equipment. The team’s excellent reputation has been built on by word of mouth, so being a friendly face and ensuring each customer has a good experience is essential to encourage them to make use of the service for years to come.
You will work on your own initiative and will be required to report on works carried out. As you’ll be working in occupied premises, a significant part of the role will be liaising with tenants in line with our customer service excellence procedures and ensuring works are completed to a high standard.
What do you need?
You’ll need a friendly and professional approach, consistently representing the Council to a high standard in everything you do.
Ideally, you will hold a qualification in a relevant discipline, however, we also welcome applicants with demonstrable equivalent experience in a similar role. You would also ideally hold the trained trusted assessor (Level 3) qualification but if you don’t, you will undertake this qualification with us within the first 3 months of employment.
You’ll also need to hold a full UK driving licence to enable you to travel between venues across Stockton-on-Tees.
For detailed information on this role, please refer to the Job Description and Person Specification.
Why work for us?
Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council prides itself on being a great place to work where staff are trusted, valued and supported to make a positive contribution at work.
But don’t just take our word for it, Here’s what one of our team members had to say:
“I get a lot of job satisfaction from seeing the work we do in the HIA Team. It’s great working for a Council that invests in the people of the area and its own employees”.
We offer an excellent total reward package, including:
4. A competitive salary of £29,540 - £31,022
5. 27 days annual leave per year rising to 32 with 5 years service (plus bank holidays). Ability to purchase additional leave is also available.
6. Generous Pension Scheme through the LGPS with ability to pay extra and plan for retirement.
7. Access to a number of other employee benefits including learning & development opportunities, a car lease scheme, discounts at high street and online retailers, an employee assistance programme and physiotherapy services.
