Voluntary Governance Role
Llewellyn School and Maple Haven School are specialist SEND schools committed to providing high‑quality education, care and support for children and young people with additional needs. We are seeking a skilled and committed Vice Chair of Governors to support the Chair and governing body in providing strong, effective strategic leadership across both schools.
The Role
As Vice Chair of Governors, you will play a key leadership role within the governing body, working closely with the Chair and Headteachers to ensure robust governance, accountability and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Supporting the Chair of Governors in leading the governing body
2. Deputising for the Chair when required, including chairing meetings
3. Providing strategic challenge and support to senior leaders
4. Contributing to governor monitoring, visits and panels as appropriate
5. Promoting high standards of governance, integrity and teamwork
The Person
The successful candidate will:
6. Have experience of governance, leadership, or strategic decision‑making (education experience is desirable but not essential)
7. Demonstrate strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills
8. Be confident offering respectful challenge and balanced support
9. Understand the responsibilities of governance, including safeguarding and confidentiality
10. Be committed to inclusive practice and improving outcomes for pupils with SEND
Governor experience is welcomed, however training and mentoring will be provided for the right candidate.
Time Commitment
Approximately 6–8 governing body meetings per year, plus additional meetings, visits and preparation where required. Meetings may take place during the day or early evening and are a mix of in‑person and remote.
