Cornwall Council is offering you an opportunity to join our dynamic team as a Senior Commercial Food & Safety Officer. In this role, your work will regulate and support local businesses.
The Role
What You’ll be doing:
* Inspection of A–E rated food premises and approved premises
* Investigating food & safety complaints and infectious disease notifications
* Delivering tailored food safety advice packages
* Issuing Export Health Certificates
* Collaborating with a forward-thinking, supportive team
* Contributing to wider team projects and initiatives
This is a public/customer-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies. This position will be subject to an enhanced criminal record disclosure check.
What the Role Involves
* Food & Safety Regulatory Work – Conducting regulatory interventions within food businesses across Cornwall
* Business Regulatory Support – Providing hands-on guidance, advice, training, and proactive support to Cornwall’s vibrant business community
* Export Health Certificates (EHCs) – Issuing EHCs to fishing distributors and carrying out risk-based inspections
* Primary Authority – Leading or supporting food safety work within our Primary Authority partnerships
Working Pattern
This role is 37 hours per week. Flexible working options are available for this role, including compressed hours.
What you’ll need to succeed
* You’re passionate about Food Safety and confident in delivering regulatory services and business advice. Whether you’re:
* Experienced in a Local Authority or regulatory setting
* Newly qualified and eager to expand your skills & knowledge
* Coming from the private sector with transferable skills
* You hold a degree in Environmental Health or an equivalent qualification (i.e. Higher Certificate in Food Premises Inspection)
