Other Allowance: Welsh Government has introduced a DDaT Allowance for posts categorised as Group 1. This post is eligible for the ‘Developing’ proficiency level of the Welsh Government’s DDaT Allowance, which will be £2,100 for HEO.


Purpose of post

The Welsh Government delivers digital services to people and businesses across Wales. This role supports the administration of a critical line‑of‑business suite of applications hosted on a cloud‑only estate, working closely with senior engineers, central IT teams and software support engineers.


Team / Division Overview

The team consists of 1 Senior Infrastructure Engineer, 2 Infrastructure Engineers and 1 Associate Infrastructure Engineer. Your main focus will be to support Azure Cloud and Office 365 infrastructure solutions and services.


Job role

Mapped to the Infrastructure Engineer role/level in the DDaT Profession Capability Framework. The engineer will support and maintain Azure Cloud and Office 365 services, ensuring delivery, supporting third parties, and troubleshooting mission‑critical processes.


Responsibilities

* Administration, maintenance and troubleshooting of Azure public‑cloud components covering IaaS, PaaS and SaaS.
* Build, configure and support infrastructure solutions following new and established designs, adhering to industry best practice and product lifecycles.
* Implement, monitor and support security controls in line with information security requirements, working with architects and security teams.
* Collaborate with other delivery teams, business owners, suppliers and vendors.
* Monitor systems, identify and address performance or capacity problems.
* Analyse support patterns to resolve systematic problems.
* Manage and document changes in accordance with Change Management processes.
* Produce and maintain high‑standard technical documentation and new standards such as Secure by Design.
* Prioritise and diagnose incidents and requests, owning tickets to completion.
* Escalate major or urgent incidents (P1) via the service desk and communicate with stakeholders.
* Ensure smooth service transition of new systems into active support.
* Perform system maintenance, security patching, handle incidents and production Go‑live activities, possibly outside normal hours.
* Future opportunities to manage staff and development as the team grows.

* Atlassian Product suite
