We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team. The role focuses on delivering safe, reliable, and sustainable electrical systems across the Agency’s portfolio, including high‑voltage and low‑voltage power, control systems, and telemetry/SCADA solutions.
Responsibilities
* Provide technical engineering leadership and support to the entire organisation, shaping future services and meeting net‑zero commitments.
* Develop, maintain and enforce electrical engineering standards, including HV/LV safety rules, control system standards and SCADA/telemetry best practices.
* Support asset management teams in pumping stations, water management, flood defence structures and monitoring sites.
* Develop and deliver competency and skills guidance for staff working with electrical systems.
* Lead national incident response activities, including out‑of‑hours support.
* Collaborate cross‑functionally with mechanical, civil and civil engineering teams.
Qualifications
* Good working knowledge of the Electricity at Work Regulations and BS 7671/IET wiring regulations.
* Extensive knowledge of control systems, IEC 61508, IEC 62061 and BS EN 13489, and telemetry/SCADA systems.
* Experience with high‑and low‑voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Proven ability to develop and deliver Safe Systems of Work, risk assessments and method statements.
* Skilled in testing, isolation and proving of high‑and low‑voltage electrical systems.
* Strong understanding of risk‑based electrical maintenance, FMEA, reliability systems and processes.
* Experience drafting and publishing electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent work management, teamwork and communication skills.
Requirements
* UK driving licence.
* Current membership of a recognised engineering institution and registration as a Chartered Engineer with the UK Engineering Council (or evidence of progress toward registration within 12 months).
* Hybrid working arrangement; base location near to your home.
* Ready to take on national incident management responsibilities.
