Principal Civil Design Engineer - Water\n\nLocation: Manchester\n Job Type: Permanent\n Salary: 70-75k\n\nAbout the Role\n\nWe're looking for a Principal Civil Design Engineer to lead the delivery of innovative, safe, and sustainable civil engineering solutions across the water sector. In this senior role, you'll be responsible for overseeing design standards, guiding technical delivery, and mentoring a talented team of engineers and technicians.\n\nThis is a fantastic opportunity to shape water infrastructure projects that make a real difference to communities, while developing your leadership and technical influence.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nLead and approve the delivery of design outputs, including reports, drawings, DRAs, and specifications.\n\nIdentify and communicate efficient design solutions from scopes and site visits.\n\nEnsure compliance with safety, quality, and technical standards across all deliverables.\n\nProvide technical guidance throughout project lifecycles - from tender to completion.\n\nAct as Responsible Engineer (CRE) or Professional Head for specific projects.\n\nSupport the development of junior engineers, graduates, and CAD technicians.\n\nManage change within design packages, ensuring accurate implementation and documentation.\n\nAttend and present at ALM and KM meetings.\n\nContribute to continuous improvement of design standards and best practices.\n\nWhat We're Looking For\n\nRequired:\n\nAt least 10 years' experience in civil design within the regulated water industry.\n\nProven leadership at Senior or Principal Engineer level.\n\nStrong understanding of hydraulics.\n\nDegree or HND in Civil Engineering or similar.\n\nChartered Engineer status (CEng).\n\nProficiency in IT tools relevant to design engineering.\n\nDesirable:\n\nExperience in both clean and wastewater design.\n\nFamiliarity with infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects.\n\nAwareness of construction methods and materials.\n\nKnowledge of Engineering Drawing Practices.\n\nFull UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.\n\nKey Skills\n\nStrong technical knowledge in civil design.\n\nExcellent communication and collaboration abilities.\n\nResults-oriented, with a focus on delivering high-quality outcomes.\n\nEffective problem-solving and decision-making.\n\nCommitted to continuous personal and professional development.\n\nAbility to mentor and support team growth.\n\nWhy Join Us?\n\nGenerous pension scheme - 9% total contribution\n\nExcellent holiday package - 23 days annual leave + 8 public holidays\n\nFlexible working - Start between 7:00 AM and 10:00 AM to suit your lifestyle\n\nFree on-site gym - Stay fit without the extra cost\n\nFresh fruit in the office - Small perks that make a difference\n\nExclusive benefits - Access lifestyle perks through Circular Benefits platform\n\nIf you're a motivated engineering leader ready to drive impactful design solutions in the water sector, we'd love to hear from you
