This part‑time role requires 30 hours per week and offers an exciting opportunity to lead the Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist team at Great Western Hospital, driving service development and innovation in lung cancer care.
As a clinical nurse specialist, you will shape the future of the lung cancer service, ensuring patients receive high‑quality, patient‑centred support throughout their cancer pathway.
Responsibilities
* Provide clinical leadership, professional guidance and oversight for the specialist nursing team, while maintaining a clinical presence across the Trust and offering expert assessment, advice and support to patients and carers.
* Act as a key worker for patients with suspected or confirmed lung cancer, providing advanced clinical assessment, coordination, and continuity of care across the entire pathway.
* Promote and develop the specialist advisory and supportive role of a Clinical Nurse Specialist in lung cancer, demonstrating advanced clinical skills and knowledge, supported by post‑registration education and qualification.
* Demonstrate exemplary nursing practice, delivering high‑quality, individualised, evidence‑based care in line with the Trust Nursing Strategy and the 6Cs.
* Use specialist clinical expertise to manage complex symptoms, treatment‑related side effects and supportive care needs.
* Provide skilled psychological support to patients and families, including facilitating difficult conversations and supporting informed decision‑making.
* Advocate for patients and carers, ensuring care is compassionate, equitable and responsive to individual needs and preferences.
* Lead and deliver nurse‑led clinics, including assessment, follow‑up, education, treatment support, remote monitoring and completion of end‑of‑treatment summaries.
* Contribute to service improvement, clinical governance and quality assurance in line with national guidance.
