The Gully Cleansing Team is excited to offer a 35 hour LGV Driver vacancy.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic service that affects every resident within Leeds. With over 148,000 gullies and 48 kilometres of linear drainage to cleanse, the Gully Cleansing Service plays a vital part in keeping the City highways safe and free from surface water ponding.
We are looking for enthusiastic, hard-working and passionate individuals to join our team, who demonstrate a commitment to service delivery. The successful candidates MUST have a Cat C licence with a valid CPC and will enjoy working as part of an award winning team whatever the weather!

The shift is a 4 x 3 working pattern as below:
Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday
Week 2: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
The average working week is 35 hours. The start time is 06:00 and the finish time is 16:30.
You will be expected to be available to cover emergency call out, for which additional payment will be made. You will also be expected to be available for planned work in traffic sensitive locations, at times outside the normal shift pattern, which include working nights, and you will on occasions start early 04:00 to meet service needs, enhanced rates of pay may apply, dependant on timing, as outlined in the NJC conditions.
Please note that in addition to the salary quoted, this post also attracts enhancements that recognise the requirement to work alternate weekends and Bank Holidays when they fall on your shift.

Job Description
Job Purpose: To be responsible for providing a safe, efficient and reliable gulley cleansing service which meets the needs of the citizens of Leeds
It should be noted that this job description is subject to occasional changes to incorporate
other commensurate duties and responsibilities in response to organisational change/review
and to assist flexibility. The duties outlined are not meant as an exhaustive list and will also
comprise any other duties within the spirit of the post as specified by the Manager.
Responsibilities for Grade:
1. Drive safely and be responsible for any allocated vehicle.
2. Be responsible for providing a safe, efficient, and reliable service, which includes following any instructions by your Supervisor / Manager.
3. Ensure you abide by and work within the values and behaviours expected by the Service and the Council. Be courteous to colleagues and members of the public at all times.
4. Duties will include vehicle checks, required routine maintenance (for example oil and water checks) and cleaning of the cab. You must report any vehicle defects noticed throughout the course of the day.
5. Be responsible for the safe use of the vehicle, oversight of the operational work and safety of self and any attendants.
6. Report any issues to management, using technologies. Be responsible for the correct use of any technology used for recording purposes, including in-cab units and mobile phones, following related procedures. Complete training as expected. Input data in the accepted manner and ensure any issues with technology are reported as soon as possible.
7. Ensure delivery of a customer focused Service. Answer queries from the public in a polite manner, using customer care principles.
8. Work in partnership with internal and external partners. Including the back office team, development and contact centre to ensure a high quality service is delivered. Respond in a positive way to queries from Management/other partners.
9. At all times drive safely following the Highway Code and ensure that all relevant Health and Safety regulations are observed and complied with.
10. Attend training courses as necessary and demonstrate a commitment to keeping up to date with skills and knowledge through self-development.
11. Wear protective clothing, boots, gloves, high visibility jackets etc as required by Health and Safety procedures of the Service. Ensure that requests for new equipment are done where essential and in a timely manner.
12. To assist your Gully Tank Attendant where required with the cleansing and emptying of gullies in accordance with the work programme and procedures.
13. To assist your Gully Tank Attendant when using the jetting mechanism to clear obstructions when necessary.
14. Ensure at all times that Health and Safety regulations are observed and complied with. All work is to be completed in accordance with the appropriate Risk Assessment and Safe Working Procedure.
15. Use and work with any in-cab technology regarding the daily work.
16. Carry out all work with the highest standards of behaviour and conduct thereby reflecting the importance of the role as an ambassador for the City and the Council. In particular, to respond courteously and professionally to contact with and requests from our customers.
17. Report suggestions for improvements to your Supervisor/Manager to help improve the delivery of a more efficient and quality service. Adopt a One Council approach.
18. Work with colleagues as part of a Team for Leeds.
19. Be prepared to respond to emergency requests outside normal hours. Be available for overtime and comply with the overtime protocol.
20. Follow disposal point rules when tipping off or discharging the vehicle - this includes going to the allocated sites for tipping off or alternatives as directed.

60. Ability to work as part of a team, proactive and commited to the success of the service. The service operates over 7 days a week on a repeating shift basis (4 by 3) as follows:-
Week 1 Mon, Tues, Sat, Sun
Week 2 Wed, Thurs, Fri
A 10 hour day is worked commencing at 06.00 hrs and finishing at 16.30 hrs giving an average of 35 hours a week over the 2 week cycle. All Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays (with the exception of Christmas day, Boxing day and New Years day) are regarded as normal working days and the salary quoted reflects this requirement with no further enhancements.

During your employment with the Council your terms and conditions of employment will be in accordance with collective agreements negotiated from time to time by the National Joint Council (NJC) for Local Government Services, as set out in the Scheme of Conditions of Service as supplemented by local collective agreements reached with trade unions recognised by the Council and by the rules of the Council.
