As Laboratory Manager within the Animal Health Monitoring (AHM) team, you will support the day-to-day running of the laboratory, making sure work is delivered to a high standard and on time. You will also manage the animal health monitoring team playing a key role in guiding the team, improving workflows, and maintaining a positive, motivated working environment. In addition, you will participate in the commercial sales and marketing of the animal health monitoring service.
What you’ll be doing:
* Lead and support a multidisciplinary laboratory team, setting clear direction, managing performance, and fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture
* Oversee daily lab operations to ensure efficient workflows, high quality standards, and compliance with licensing and health & safety requirements
* Manage resources, stock control, and systems to drive cost-effective and streamlined laboratory performance
* Contribute hands-on scientific expertise across key disciplines (e.g. bacteriology, serology, molecular assays) when required
* Work closely with senior stakeholders to continuously improve services, support delivery, and shape future direction
* Drive customer-focused service delivery, including business development, marketing activities, and representing the laboratory internally and externally
* Support innovation, knowledge sharing, and the development of new services, publications, and organisational growth
What we’re looking for:
* A BSc in a Biological related Science plus extensive laboratory experience in Animal Health Monitoring preferably in an operational management capacity
* Significant commercial experience in a science organisation preferably within the Laboratory Animal Science sector.
* A strong understanding of FELASA health monitoring recommendations
* A good understanding of ASPA 2018 particularly schedule 1.
* Home office modules 1-3 preferable but not essential
