Friends of Abingdon Abbey Buildings Trust are looking to recruit a Visual Arts Lead to help deliver creative projects as part of the National Lottery Heritage Fund-supported Abbey Buildings restoration project in Abingdon. The Abingdon Abbey Buildings Trust owns and manages the remains of the Abingdon Abbey on behalf of the community.
We are looking for a Creative Leader for our visual arts programme. Are you an artist who enjoys working with communities and bringing local stories to life? Working with local communities, schools and volunteers, you’ll help create artwork inspired by the history, stories and future of the Abbey Buildings, including a major public artwork for the project’s site hoardings during the restoration works. We’re particularly interested in hearing from practitioners with experience of participatory, community or heritage-based arts projects.
The successful practitioner will lead the creative development and delivery of our 3 year visual arts activities within the programme, working closely with the Programme Manager, Community Engagement Officer, Interpretation, Consultant, and local partners.
This is a project-based freelance opportunity which will evolve over the life of the programme. While there are
several defined activity strands, we are also keen for the successful practitioner to help shape and develop the
creative direction of the work
