Job Summary
We are looking for compassionate and committed Residential Care Workers to support and care for young people in a safe, nurturing environment. The right candidate will be able to build positive relationships, communicate effectively with young people, families, and professionals, and provide guidance tailored to individual needs. While previous childcare experience is beneficial, it is not essential. This role involves supporting daily routines, developing and reviewing care plans, and encouraging young people to reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
* Work towards or hold a Level 3/4 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent, e.g. Level 3/4 Diploma in Children and Young People Workforce – children's social care pathway), as required by the Children's Homes Regulations 2015 (England).
* Support and encourage children and young people to achieve personal goals and aspirations.
* Build positive, trusting relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.
* Demonstrate an understanding of the challenges facing young people and a basic knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures.
* Manage and respond effectively to challenging behaviours.
* Collaborate with colleagues and professionals, demonstrating strong teamwork and communication skills.
* Work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays, as required.
* Commit to mandatory training and ongoing professional development to deliver high standards of care.
* Use creativity, energy, and enthusiasm to inspire young people to engage and thrive.
* Create, implement, and review personalised care plans.
* Communicate regularly with young people, families, and professionals to ensure consistent support.
* Transport young people to appointments, activities, or events as needed.
* Keep accurate and up-to-date records of progress, incidents, and changes in circumstances.
* Provide companionship, emotional support, and encouragement to promote wellbeing.
Qualifications & Skills
* Previous experience in residential care or childcare is desirable but not essential.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* A valid driving licence is preferred to assist with transport needs.
* Confidence using IT systems for record-keeping and reporting is an advantage.
* A caring, empathetic approach with genuine passion for supporting young people.
* Flexibility to adapt to the needs of the role and those in your care.
