BU1 Engine Systems and Components Purpose of Job Perform testing and metrology measurements of automotive plain bearings supporting materials research & development projects, internal benchmarking activities and production related issues. Analyse test data and provide written test reports. Improve existing test methods and test rigs as well as facilitate the development, acquisition and installation of new test equipment. Drive new test and measurement developments to meet future requirements, especially in the area of wear and friction measurements, from concept to validation, including design, project planning and build. Provide support to the Head of Product Testing. Duties Perform testing on dedicated test rigs, assess samples post-test and report results. Perform and interpret metrology measurements including mechanical testing and photography. Ensure traceability and robustness of test and metrology data generated from accurately performed tests and measurements which meet agreed timescales. The set-up and operation of instrumentation, logging systems. Implement improvements to working practise, document changes and write work instructions. Assist with fault finding and repairs on mechanical, electrical & hydraulic systems. Supervise and advise Technicians and Operators as appropriate. Adapt and improve testing equipment and capabilities aligned with customer/market needs. Covering in the absence of the Head of Product Testing. Qualifications Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Material Science based subject (essential) Skills and Experience Proven experience in an automotive or similar component R&D testing background (essential) A strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical & hydraulic systems (desirable) Experience of instrumentation systems (essential) Experience of using metrology equipment (desirable) Strong testing knowledge, data analysis and report writing skills (essential) Competencies Proven ability to work effectively on own initiative and delivery results in a timely manner Team player Good communication skills at all levels Attention to detail and accuracy Do you have any questions?
