The General Manager provides leadership to the Management of the Canadian facility, sets the strategic direction of the organization and is responsible for the profitability of the Cambridge facility. The individual is responsible for continuous improvement, efficiency of the organization and ensuring Customers receive the highest quality products on time. They are directly responsible for overlooking all areas of Finance, Manufacturing, Quality, EHS, Procurement, Sales, Engineering, Human Resources and General Administration. The General Manager is a member of the Senior Management Team and reports to the President, North America.
Core Duties/Responsibilities:
* Defining and communicating the vision, mission and objectives to the site Management and Employees.
* Accountable for the overall financial performance of the operations.
* Oversee daily operations of the organization.
* Develops a total quality management team by providing effective leadership, management, and decision-making.
* Ensures that personnel are appropriately motivated to attain Company objectives with respect to profitability, efficiency, and product quality.
* Builds Company image by collaborating with customers, government, community organizations, and employees, enforcing ethical business practices.
* Assisted by departmental managers, develops annual financial and non-financial budgets and long-term strategic plans for the Company in keeping with objectives established by Corporate.
* Within guidelines set out in financial plans, establishes budget and expenditure priorities, approves all major operating and capital expenditures, and negotiates major contracts.
* Ensures the Company operates within predetermined approved objectives set out in the long-term strategic plans by monitoring and evaluating operations and procedures performed in both departmental and total entity environments; reviews and evaluates the performance of managers regarding plan achievements; initiates corrective action as required.
* Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards.
* Coordinates and provides overall direction to the various functions such as Sales, Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality assurance, Finance and Human Resources.
* Ensures company achieves optimum productivity while meeting customer shipping requirements, maintaining high safety and product quality standards and minimum manufacturing costs.
* Responsible, in coordination with HR, such as human resources functions i.e., conducting interviews, selecting, and hiring key employees, conducting performance appraisals, disciplining, and providing training programs for key employees.
* Primarily responsible for ensuring safe work practices are maintained & the appropriate and legal Health and Safety requirements are kept.
* Ensures all Environmental requirements are met.
* Ultimate responsibility for safeguarding the confidential information of the Company.
* Networks with all functional areas and all levels of management (VP’s, Directors, Managers).
* Accountable for conducting regular communication meetings with all employees.
* Develop and maintain good relations with the local social environment.
* Responsible for the logistics, availability of space, equipment, personnel, administrative support, comfort necessary to carry out these tasks, in line with the legal, safety, social, environmental requirements.
* Modify the site organization as necessary and deploy specific projects to continuously improve efficiency.
* Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required.
Skill/Knowledge & Other Requirements:
* Bachelor’s degree in business, MBA, Manufacturing or other related discipline and a minimum of 5 years of relevant practical management and manufacturing experience.
* Lean Manufacturing/6 Sigma Concepts highly desirable.
* Significant experience in interacting with Senior Management.
* Excellent leadership skills, conflict resolution, people management skills and professionalism.
* Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written), attention to detail, excellent work ethic,
* Problem solving and developing new ways to improve operational efficiency, profitability, and cost control, and able to develop improvements to systems or procedures.
* Strong knowledge of supply chain and inventory management.
* Lead change and influence, work independently and in a team environment.
* Excellent time management skills and ability to turn actions into results.
* Must be a free thinker to develop and capitalize on business opportunities and to diagnose and solve problems as well as an effective and efficient decision maker.
* Must be knowledgeable in all facets of the Company’s operations such as human resources, marketing, sales, production, quality assurance, finance, and costing.
* Must be able to effectively direct, manage, motivate, and work effectively with employees at various levels in the Company.
* Requires self-confidence, initiative and drive and ability to manage own activities and work in a team environment.
* Requires good organizational, prioritization, and management skills to ensure projects are performed efficiently and within deadlines.
