What will you be doing?
The Tax Dispute Resolution team helps a wide variety of business and private clients resolve historic tax problems by assisting with HMRC enquiries, supporting with tax disclosures, and providing guidance through the appeal process including litigation. This includes clients of the firm as well as external clients who seek us out for our expertise. Although the role is based in London, the team services clients across the UK, including clients of our network of offices.
We are looking for a proactive professional with strong client service skills, tax technical expertise and a problem-solving ethos.
This role will be based in London or Birmingham on a hybrid pattern.
As a Tax Dispute Resolution Manager, your responsibilities will include among others:
* Overseeing a portfolio of clients to ensure efficient delivery of work, including monitoring work-in-progress and managing the team’s finances
* Collaborating with senior team members to deliver projects, supporting and mentoring junior team members in training, prepare client reports, attend client meetings, and review tax calculations.
* Handling tax dispute enquiries from tax teams across our office network
* Liaise with HMRC and other third parties on cases as appropriate
* Providing exceptional client service by proactively communicating updates and responding to client questions.
* Developing junior team members by providing timely feedback and assisting with their technical and personal development.
* Contributing to the team’s internal and external business development and marketing activities
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you should possess:
* Experience within a professional services firm and/or HMRC, with a thorough understanding of HMRC’s powers, including enquiries, information requests, assessments/claims, appeals, and penalties.
* Proficiency in managing multiple projects simultaneously, along with strong report writing skills.
* Confidence in client interactions and the ability to build meaningful relationships.
Professional Qualifications and Education
* Chartered Accountant (ACCA / ACA) and/or Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA) qualification or be an exam qualified HMRC tax inspector.
Key Competencies
* Must be able to plan workload to prioritise to meet conflicting deadlines and cope with pressure. Must be able to instruct others, delegate appropriately and control delegated work.
* Good written communication skills are necessary to draft correspondence with clients and HMRC to explain technical issues in an easily understandable manner. Must have good inter-personal skills to be able to liaise with clients and other staff members.
* Meeting deadlines and responding to client needs.
* Provide link in chain to supervise staff members below and support Partners above.
* Maintain technical knowledge. Need to be able to understand issues, spot potential problems and provide solutions.
