Job overview

Reporting directly into the corporate quality governance team – this post will provide expert quality governance support for a respective division or divisions. This includes the maintenance of a close working relationship with their respective DDNQ. This will include but is not limited to flagging emerging patient safety/experience matters of concern, writing and designing high quality governance reports, attending (via rotation) key quality governance meetings for each respective divisional director of nursing.

The post holder will also be required to develop effective internal divisional governance models, which meet Trust standards and national best practice. They will ensure that effective operational clinical governance processes are in place to support high quality learning from all quality governance activity. This work will ensure the effective smooth resolution and / or progress of complaints, incident investigations. They will triangulate key information, supporting and updating the relevant DDNQ whilst ensuring effective risk management processes are embedded via a commitment to continuous quality improvement.

The postholder will work closely with the central quality governance teams and via training will become an expert in all aspects of quality governance, assisting the relevant division to meet all relevant quality governance KPIs and regulatory compliance for key areas of quality governance

Main duties of the job

• To ensure Directorate / Specialty governance standardised meeting structures are in place which align with Divisional and Corporate Governance structures

• To frequently use IT skills e.g. quality governance digital systems, databases to analyse highly complex data and produce reports

• Design and present governance presentations to a variety of different forums at both Trust, Divisional and Directorate level

• Ensure processes are in place to effectively share key lessons and learning from adverse events

• To attend and represent the Division at the appropriate corporate forum as required.

• Become an expert accredited user of the Trusts digital quality management system

• To support local leaders to undertake appropriate risk assessments and implement risk reducing measures.

• To establish al systems to ensure staff in the Division are up to date with Trust policies, procedures and guidelines.

• Act as a case manager for a small caseload of complex complaints which will require the investigation of the complainants concerns

• To lead on a small caseload of particularly complex learning responses including patient safety incident investigations (PSII’s) and formally commissioned AARs (After Action Review’s) using appropriate PSIRF methodology

• To meet with patients and families (alongside relevant clinical leads) to provide sensitive feedback from investigations

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria

5. UK Masters degree educated, ideally in a subject related to patient safety, risk management and / or clinical governance

Desirable criteria

6. Registered HCP with current registration
7. Management/leadership qualification or additional short courses
8. Capsticks diploma in risk management (or equivalent)

Experience

Essential criteria

9. Acute sector experience working in a role within a clinical governance specialty
10. In depth knowledge and experience of the NHS complaints standards

Desirable criteria

11. InPhase Quality Management system Super-user (Report Builder and Chart Design Skills)

12. Expert user of microsoft office software
13. Experience of implementing effective oversight processes related to quality NHS themed NHS data
