Autism Support Assistant – SEN – September Start

Pay: £89 – £100 per day (depending on experience)
An Ofsted-rated ‘Good’ school in the Tameside area is seeking a committed Autism Support Assistant to join their team from September. The school caters for pupils aged 11–16 with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), social communication difficulties, and moderate to severe learning needs. Pupils follow individualised learning pathways supported by multi-agency professionals, including speech and language therapists, educational psychologists, and behaviour specialists.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide 1:1 or small group support for pupils with ASC, focusing on communication, emotional regulation, and learning outcomes.
* Use visual aids, PECS, or Makaton (training provided if needed) to assist in classroom engagement.
* Promote a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment tailored to individual sensory and learning needs.
* Monitor pupil progress and contribute to regular reviews of their Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
* Support class teachers with planning and delivery of differentiated activities.
Requirements:
* Experience working with children or young people with Autism is essential.
* Calm, patient, and adaptable approach to behaviour management.
* Any training in Team Teach, MAPA, or positive handling is desirable but not essential (we offer training).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
