About the Opportunity
We are recruiting for a passionate, resilient, and creative SEN Teacher to join a dynamic Alternative Provision team in Nottingham. This role is based at a dedicated City Hub that supports young people who have often felt let down by mainstream education. These are learners who dont just need a teacher:they need an educator who can truly connect with them.
This provision prioritises engagement, wellbeing, and holistic progress. You will deliver high:quality, adaptive teaching across a broad curriculum, blending academic learning with vital personal and life skills.
What Teaching Looks Like Here

Small Class Sizes: Groups of just 3:6 learners, allowing you to build genuine bonds and tailor education effectively.

1:1 Support: Occasional focused sessions to help anxious or disengaged students transition into group learning.
*
Strong TA Support: Dedicated Teaching Assistants allocated to groups and directed by you to provide targeted intervention.
*
Manageable Workload: Creative, flexible planning and marking with a heavy emphasis on pupil voice, rather than endless paperwork.
Key Responsibilities
*
Set ambitious, personalised academic and wellbeing targets using baseline assessments.
*
Deliver engaging lessons, with a particular focus on KS3/KS4 Maths and Functional Skills (strengths in these areas are highly advantageous).
*
Utilise relational and restorative approaches to manage behaviour and re:engage learners.
*
Create a safe, inclusive, and purposeful learning environment.
*
Work collaboratively with specialist staff, families, and external agencies to support student reintegration and next:step pathways.
What We Are Looking For
*
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), PGCE, or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
*
A strong background or capability to teach Maths (KS3/KS4/Functional Skills), alongside a willingness to contribute to a wider, flexible curriculum.
*
Confidence using relational and restorative behaviour strategies rather than punitive measures.
*
A full UK driving license (essential due to the nature of the role).
*
A reflective, open:minded practitioner. Experience in special education or alternative provision is desirable, but the right mindset and passion matter most.
