Job Summary Our CAMHS Getting More Help Service is looking for a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist (6 PAs) to join our Specialist Community Team East, based at Wokingham Hospital and covering the Bracknell locality. You'll work with children and young people with moderate to severe mental health needs across emotional dysregulation, trauma and depression pathways, supporting them in the community to access timely intervention. You'll play a key role in delivering innovative, multi‑agency care in a team with very low wait times, making a real difference to young people and their families. Our fully staffed MDT values holistic assessment, shared formulation & thoughtful care planning. Consultants are integral to shaping plans alongside colleagues, contributing clinical expertise within a genuinely collaborative environment.
Key Duties
Provide psychiatric assessment, diagnosis and treatment for children and young people up to 18 within the Bracknell locality
Hold a caseload and deliver 2‑3 clinical contacts per direct clinical session, depending on clinical complexity
Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, contributing to shared formulation, holistic care planning and multi‑agency decision‑making
Offer consultation and clinical advice to colleagues across the service
Engage with families, schools, social care, community paediatrics, GPs and partner agencies to coordinate care
Participate in service improvement, clinical audit, CPD and teaching
Qualifications – Essential
Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months
Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
Approved under S12 OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
Excellent knowledge in specialty and experience working with children and young people with complex needs, spanning multiple agencies
Excellent clinical skills using bio‑psycho‑social perspective and wide medical knowledge
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others
Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
Experience in the management of children and young people with complex needs spanning multiple agencies, with mental health and learning disability problems alongside behavioural issues
Qualifications – Desirable
MRCPsych or equivalent postgraduate qualification
Additional clinical qualifications
Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
Experience in clinical research, service evaluation or teaching
Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement (awards, presentations or publications)
Professional Skills
Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training
Ability to work in and lead a multidisciplinary team
Demonstrate commitment to shared leadership & collaborative working to deliver improvement
Participated in continuous professional development, research or service evaluation
Active participation in clinical audit and quality improvement programmes
