About The Role
Reporting to the Head of Policy and Public Affairs and working closely with colleagues across EngineeringUK and our partners, you will be instrumental to the delivery of our policy and public affairs programme. You will lead on policy projects and on developing organisational policy positions, producing reports and responses to government consultations (with a focus on education and skills). You will be responsible for engaging with stakeholders, internally and externally, requiring you to be an excellent team player and collaborator. The role is based in London at 10 Lower Thames Street, EC3R 6EN, with some travel in the UK. Hybrid working is offered with a minimum of 2 days (40%) a week in the office.
Responsibilities
* Lead policy projects and develop organisational policy positions and recommendations.
* Produce reports and responses to government consultations.
* Communicate policy messages to government and other stakeholders.
* Use research and data to identify trends and support policy development.
* Manage multiple tasks in a deadline‑driven environment.
* Engage with stakeholders internally and externally, collaborating across teams.
Essential Skills / Competencies
* Demonstrable experience in developing organisational policy positions, responses and report writing, and leading impactful policy engagement with government stakeholders.
* Experience using government and other datasets to support policy development.
* Project management experience with stakeholder engagement that leads to lasting partnerships.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex research and policy messages and write concisely for a variety of audiences.
* Good understanding of the education and skills landscape and its political environment.
* Ability to work independently, prioritise competing demands, take direction, be flexible, and collaborate with others.
* Commitment to the mission and values, particularly supporting equity, diversity and inclusion.
Desirable Skills / Competencies
* Existing network of contacts across the education, skills and/or engineering sector within and outside of government.
Education / Level Of Experience
* Educated to degree level or equivalent, or similar ability gained through relevant work experience.
* Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar role.
