Job Description We are looking for a Materials Controller to oversee the procurement, receipt, storage, distribution, and tracking of materials on a major Energy project in Teesside The Material Controller is responsible for overseeing the procurement, receipt, storage, distribution, and tracking of materials and equipment required for pipeline construction and maintenance projects. This role ensures that all project materials are available, properly documented, and compliant with industry standards, project specifications, and safety regulations. The Material Controller serves as a key link between procurement, engineering, construction, and logistics teams to ensure materials management supports project timelines and cost efficiency. Responsibilities Material Management & Control Manage and maintain accurate records of all incoming and outgoing pipeline materials, tools, and equipment. Verify material deliveries against purchase orders, material test certificates, and project specifications. Ensure traceability of materials (e.g., pipes, fittings, valves, welding consumables, coatings) through proper tagging, documentation, and storage. Maintain a comprehensive Material Control Register and regularly update inventory reports. Coordination & Communication Liaise with procurement, logistics, and project management teams to ensure timely delivery of required materials. Coordinate with site engineers and construction teams to forecast material needs and avoid shortages or excess inventory. Interface with suppliers and freight forwarders to track material shipments and resolve discrepancies. Compliance & Quality Ensure materials meet applicable codes, standards, and client/project requirements. Work closely with QA/QC teams to confirm inspection and testing of materials before release to site. Implement and enforce proper storage and handling practices to prevent damage or deterioration. Systems & Reporting Utilize ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Maximo & Microsoft Excel) for tracking material status and inventory control. Prepare material status reports (MSR) and material take-off (MTO) reports for management and clients. Provide input for project cost control by monitoring material consumption and waste. Qualifications Minimum 3–5 years’ experience as a Material Controller, preferably in the pipeline, oil & gas, or heavy construction industry. Strong knowledge of pipeline materials (line pipe, valves, fittings, flanges, welding consumables, coatings, etc.). Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and MS Office Suite. Excellent organizational and communication skills.
