Brakes is recruiting for a Senior Category Manager - Meat & Poultry to join the Merchandising team on a 9-12 month fixed-term contract, reporting to the Category Merchandising Director.
The Senior Category Manager – Meat & Poultry will develop and execute a category plan supporting range development and achieving in-year margin targets. Responsibilities include range management, NPD, promotions, cross-selling, customer marketing, and pricing. The role involves analyzing total performance, managing category presence in communications, and enhancing internal and external visibility of the category. Ideal candidates will have broad commercial experience within Head Office Retail, Foodservice, or a blue-chip food manufacturing environment.
This role offers a hybrid working model with 1-2 days in our Ashford, Kent office. Flexibility for meetings across the UK is required, along with a full, clean driving license.
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
* Utilize customer, market, and supplier insights for category performance analysis and strategy development to meet sales and margin targets.
* Review and adapt category strategies monthly based on performance analysis.
* Manage all in-year deliverables, including range planning, NPD, and growth initiatives.
* Project manage the Sysco 6 Stage Category Management programme.
* Run promotions and set intelligent pricing strategies to grow business.
* Support strategic priorities like Brakes Essentials, Sysco premium, and partnerships with subsidiaries.
* Develop strategic supplier relationships to drive growth and margin opportunities.
* Manage the category's marketing plan, including supplier activation.
* Support sustainability initiatives, including recognition with accreditation bodies and higher welfare practices.
* Train sales teams on category insights and strategies.
* Ensure accuracy of category data and content across platforms.
About you:
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in applying financial and commercial skills to achieve objectives like cost savings and service improvements. Strong commercial acumen, experience in sourcing or category management, and the ability to analyze data to make informed decisions are essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint) and Tableau is required. A professional qualification in Marketing, Category Management, Merchandising, or CIPS is desirable.
