KS2 Teacher (Functional Skills / ASDAN)

The Beech House School

Are you driven by the belief that education can be a force for healing, identity‑building, and change? Do you thrive in a values‑led environment where relationships, creativity, and compassion sit at the heart of everything? If so, The Beech House School may be your next home.

The Beech House School is part of a deeply human, therapeutically informed journey — one that began with the desire to help young people build safe, meaningful attachments and process complex life experiences. Founded by a therapist passionate about PACE, attachment, and relationship, our community now includes residential children’s homes, supported accommodation for 18–25s, and a specialist SEMH school — all working together to provide safety, belonging, and opportunity.

This is more than a job. It’s a chance to help young people with complex stories reconnect with learning, with others, and with themselves. You’ll join a close‑knit, high‑trust team delivering small‑group, trauma‑informed education where practical creativity, therapeutic pedagogy, and personal development sit side by side.

About The Beech House School

The Beech House School is a newly redeveloped Independent Specialist SEMH school for looked‑after children aged 11–18. We are growing steadily from an initial cohort of 12–15 pupils and are proud to have achieved three consecutive Good Ofsted inspections since opening.

Every interaction in our school is a chance to build safety, trust, and growth. Our beautifully renovated Grade II Listed building is intentionally designed to support regulation and connection. We are developing an in‑house therapeutic model in collaboration with care and clinical teams, with a full‑time Education Therapist embedded within the education staff.

The Role: KS2 Teacher (Functional Skills / ASDAN)

As our KS2 Teacher, you will play a pivotal role in helping pupils working below age‑related expectations to rebuild their relationship with learning. You will teach foundational literacy, numeracy, and life skills, and lead alternative accreditation pathways such as Functional Skills, ASDAN, or Entry Level qualifications — supporting pupils to develop confidence, independence, and a sense of future possibility.

You will

* Teach small groups (typically 3–6 pupils) with significant differentiation and personalised approaches

* Build strong, attuned relationships using trauma‑informed strategies to promote safety, regulation, and engagement

* Deliver a relational, values‑led curriculum blending academic ambition with therapeutic and creative learning

* Embed protective factors into every lesson, nurturing identity, voice, and agency

* Lead Functional Skills, ASDAN, or other alternative accreditation pathways

* Connect learning to real‑world contexts, supporting pupils to develop practical life skills

* Work closely with therapists, pastoral staff, and care teams to create joined‑up, wraparound provision

* Support pupils’ personal, social, and academic development through our Compass Dashboard

* Be an emotionally available adult, using co‑regulation, de‑escalation, and restorative practices

This role is ideal for educators who believe in teaching the whole child and supporting pupils to reimagine what’s possible for themselves.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for changemakers — people who see education as a vehicle for justice, healing, and belonging.

Essential

* Degree‑level qualification

* Strong knowledge of Functional Skills pathways and curriculum design

* Experience teaching KS2/KS3 with significant differentiation

* Familiarity with ASDAN or Entry Level/Functional Skills qualifications

Desirable

* Knowledge of PACE or similar relational approaches

* Experience supporting transition to college or vocational routes

* Creativity in linking learning to real‑world applications

And you will also

* Be values‑led and deeply relational, with an understanding of trauma‑informed or SEMH practice

* Recognise behaviour as communication and respond with curiosity, care, and consistency

* Bring flexibility, resilience, and a good sense of humour to a dynamic, emotionally rich environment

* Be reflective and growth‑oriented, open to coaching and continuous learning

* Be willing to engage in staff supervision and therapeutic reflection

* Hold (or be working towards) QTS or equivalent — though strong unqualified teachers will be considered

If you can demonstrate the right values, we will give you all the training and support you need to thrive.

What We Offer

* A full‑time embedded Education Therapist

* Small class sizes and high staff‑to‑pupil ratios

* A beautifully renovated Grade II Listed therapeutic environment

* Extensive CPD in trauma‑informed practice, SEND, safeguarding, and relational approaches

* Structured staff supervision and reflective practice

* Coaching‑based professional development and progression pathways

* Opportunities for further qualifications (e.g., NPQs, trauma‑informed certifications)

* A high‑trust, collaborative staff community with a deep moral purpose

* Wellbeing support and a culture that values the whole person

The successful applicant must be able to start in post on 1st September 2026.
