The role
A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join a well-established, profitable construction business with over 20 years of successful trading and an excellent reputation within its sector. We are seeking an experienced, commercially minded Head of Finance (No1 role) to take ownership of the finance function and play a key role in supporting the continued growth and success of the business. This is a genuinely hands-on leadership position, ideally suited to someone who enjoys working within an SME environment where they can influence strategy whilst remaining close to the day-to-day financial operations of the business. The Role Reporting directly to the Managing Director and working closely with the senior leadership team, you will be responsible for the overall financial management of the business, providing both strategic insight and operational control. Key responsibilities will include: Leading and developing the finance function Production of monthly management accounts and board reporting Cash flow forecasting, management and optimisation Working capital management and financial planning Overseeing CIS administration and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations Managing budgeting, forecasting and annual planning processes Supporting commercial decision-making through robust financial analysis Managing relationships with banks, auditors, insurers and external advisors Monitoring project profitability and contract performance Driving continuous improvement of financial systems, controls and reporting processes Supporting the leadership team with strategic initiatives and business growth plans The Person We are looking for an ambitious and pragmatic finance professional who is comfortable operating at both strategic and operational levels. Ideally, you will possess: Qualified accountant status (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) Previous experience within the construction sector Strong understanding of CIS, contract accounting and construction-related financial controls Proven expertise in cash flow management and working capital optimisation Experience in a senior finance leadership role within an SME environment Commercial acumen with the ability to influence decision-making across the business A proactive, hands-on approach and willingness to roll up your sleeves when required Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills The Opportunity This is an excellent opportunity to join a stable, profitable and highly regarded business where you can make a genuine impact.
