Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Delivering the Service on a daily basis: identify and respond to user needs and solve problems/complaints as they arise. Liaise effectively with other staff groups, particularly clinical, and actively seek constructive feedback on service provision.

In managing the Security team, the Senior Supervisor’s role covers a range of services including:

* Ensure that control and restraint techniques, as detailed in approved training, are appropriately applied when required to fulfill duties and responsibilities.
* Ensure that complaints of crime from patients/visitors and staff are logged and recorded. Carry out investigations when required of any loss or breaches of security and report to Manager as necessary.
* Use of several computerised (or other) systems related to Security and Car Parking.
* Fully complete, monitor and ensure Security staffing rotas are adequately staffed to ensure smooth operation, compliance and alignment with budget restrictions.
* Report untoward incidents concerning staff to the Deputy Security Manager - Operational Security Manager.
* Report and log any criminal acts to the Police and the Deputy Security Manager - Operational Security Manager.
* Respond to fire alarm activations as per Standard Operating Procedures, including stand-down protocols for the fire service, and liaise with other Trust staff on a site-wide basis.
* Provide emergency assistance to all staff as required.
* Complete mandatory and annual training directives as required by the Trust to ensure personal standards are maintained.
* Ensure all staff maintain their security mandatory and annual training directives as required by the Trust.
* Supervise and manage the Security Hub activity and services; ensure that Security Officers monitor all hub functions and, where necessary, assume control of incidents as a control authority until the incident is resolved.
* Monitor fire protection systems and coordinate the security team and supervisors during fire alarm activations as per SOPs.
* Monitor and report faults of door access systems (G4S-based software) ensuring access and security systems are working.
* Monitor data downloads as required in line with Trust directives and the Data Protection Act 2018, Trust Policy and SOPs.
* Monitor the administration and production of door access cards.
* Manage the Trust Safeguarding/CCTV system in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 (GDPR), including downloading CCTV footage for evidence for police.

Person specification

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria

* General education including numeracy and literacy

Desirable criteria

* NVQ 1 in security or other equivalent security qualifications
* SIA License or relevant equivalent qualifications
* Full UK Driving License
* Violence and aggression teaching qualification
* Certified legal competence

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria

* Understanding of security services
* Awareness of NHS hospital security policy
* Good knowledge of hospital environment
* Experience of managing staff within a Security environment
* Experience of NHS Security
* Experience of conflict management, violence and aggression
* Customer service experience
* Understanding of Health and Safety
* In-depth knowledge of MCA/DOLS
* Advising clinical staff on legal legislation regarding violence and aggression/restraint
* Knowledge of Access Control/CCTV Systems
* Awareness of Fire safety/action

Desirable criteria

* Public service or NHS experience
* Experience within a leadership role of leading and managing a security team, or equivalent
* Experience of change management and service improvement
* Experience of working with the general public; knowledge of Data Protection/Caldicott
* Effective leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop people
* Knowledge of employment practices, procedures and legislation
* Good understanding of LTHTR Trust HR policies
* Proven track record of creating, leading and developing teams and inspiring subordinates to achieve their full potential
* Able to exercise own initiative when dealing with complex issues within own specialist areas of competence
* Able to delegate work appropriately
