Part of the Galileo Educational Group and network, we are pleased to advertise a fantastic opportunity to join our Music Department as a Head of Year Tutor at our city centre Liverpool campus.
Our Music department comprises industry professionals, including touring and session musicians, signed artists, and active industry participants, who are not traditional educators but passionate about sharing their expertise.
The Head of Year Tutor role is ideal for someone with an industry background, a passion for live music and performance, and a desire to nurture student growth by imparting knowledge, skills, and experience. We are committed to providing students with real industry exposure, setting us apart from other institutions.
Duties
A Head of Year Tutor, under the leadership of the Head of Department, is responsible for:
1. Delivering teaching material across BTEC and BA (Hons) modules within the Music Performance Course.
2. Providing academic administrative and pastoral support to ensure effective department operation and a supportive learning environment.
3. Organising and facilitating rehearsals, workshops, masterclasses, and performance opportunities.
4. Preparing students for assessments, including performances at various venues.
5. Developing external networks and industry connections to support student opportunities and recruitment.
In this role, opportunities to stay involved in industry and performance include:
1. Ensuring seamless execution of live music events, coordinating with performers, sound engineers, and providing excellent customer service.
2. Supervising technical setups and sound checks, working closely with technical crews.
The successful candidate will have:
* A degree in a related discipline or relevant industry experience.
* A teaching qualification or willingness to pursue one.
* A minimum of Grade C in GCSE (or equivalent) for Maths and English.
* Industry experience as a touring or session musician.
* Excellent ICT skills, preferably with Google Classrooms, and strong communication skills.
* Willingness to grow professionally, including enrolling for HEA Fellow status.
* Flexibility to travel occasionally to other campuses and performance venues.
Ideally, you’ll have:
* Experience signed to a major label or record company.
* Sufficient knowledge to develop teaching programs and support learning in an HE environment.
* Knowledge of HE teaching techniques to engage students effectively.
* Understanding of equal opportunity issues affecting academic content and student needs.
