About the Role As a General Catering Assistant / Barista, you'll play a key role in the day-to-day operation of the café and food service areas. From preparing and serving high-quality beverages and food to maintaining excellent hygiene standards, you'll help create a welcoming and professional experience for students, staff, and visitors. Working as part of a busy team, you'll support both core catering operations and retail café services while ensuring the highest standards of customer care. What You’ll Do Assist with the preparation and serving of food and beverages Prepare and serve a range of coffees and speciality drinks using commercial coffee machines Operate café equipment including coffee machines, panini grills, blenders, and dishwashers Support both retail café operations and core feeding services Operate the EPOS till system and process cash and card transactions accurately Replenish food displays and service counters throughout the day Maintain clean, safe, and hygienic café, kitchen, and customer areas Follow all food hygiene, allergen, health & safety, and company procedures Support stock replenishment and deliveries Respond to customer queries in a friendly, professional manner Report incidents, complaints, compliments, or maintenance issues appropriately Attend training sessions and team meetings as required Support the wider catering team to ensure smooth daily operations What We’re Looking For Essential Positive, friendly, and professional attitude Excellent customer service and communication skills Ability to work on your own initiative and follow instructions Strong attention to detail and commitment to high standards Ability to work effectively as part of a busy team Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks Flexible approach to work and willingness to support different areas of the operation Desirable Previous experience in a café, hospitality, retail, or catering environment Previous barista experience Food Hygiene or Health & Safety qualification Experience operating tills or EPOS systems What We Offer Working with Sodexo is more than a job — it’s a chance to be part of a team where you’re valued and supported.
