Job overview
An opportunity has arisen for experienced and enthusiastic individuals to join our Phlebotomy Team at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford, The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in Shrewsbury, Whitchurch Community Hospital Whitchurch and the new Clinical Diagnostics Centre based at Hollinswood house Telford. Working on Wards, Outpatients and in the Community Diagnosic Centre, Stafford Park. Main base is Telford.
We are advertising for 1 x 20 hour post working 20 hours over 7 days at any of the phlebotomy locations. This is a cross site post when there is an operational need to travel to an alternative site. Monday-Friday 5 days 08:00-12:00 or 13:00 - 17:00 between phlebotomy operating hours. Following a rotational Rota for weekends and bank holidays. Phlebotomy operating hours currently are: 08:00-17:00 Monday-Friday, 08:00-12:00 noon Saturday's, Sunday's and bank holidays. These hours are currently under review and could be subject to change in the future.
The successful candidate must have experience as a Supervisor Phlebotomist, should have excellent communication skills, be able to work under pressure with the ability to record data accurately, have an approachable nature and the ability to fulfil the travel requirements. Previous experience working as a supervisor is essential.
Shifts will vary according to service needs so flexibility is essential.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicants will be part of a team that provides a phlebotomy service to The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust.
Duties will include -
* Collection of blood samples by venepuncture from adults and paeds in Community Diagnostic Centre, wards, and outpatients
* Collection of blood samples by venepuncture from children age 12 months to 18 years.
* Recording and labelling of samples in accordance to SOP’s.
* Collection of relevant statistics and entering into relevant databases.
* Delivery of samples to the laboratory by hand, via the hospital vacuum air tube system, by portering staff and transport systems
* Understand and apply health and safety, clinical risk management and quality control responsibilities, as these relate to the performance of your duties.
* Maintain a clean and tidy working environment.
* Midday, morning, or afternoon shifts- including weekends and Bank/Public holidays are allocated on a rota basis across the whole team.
* There is occasional expectation to cover periods of absence by other members of the team.
* Through appraisal and liaison with the phlebotomy trainers, continually maintain and update skills, maintaining a personal record of achievement.
* Organising Rotas for all shift patterns for wards, outpatients and community.
* Supervising phlebotomists /booking team/volunteers
* Updating statistics

At present we have 40 Phlebotomists working across 4 sites. We provide a safe booking appointment system at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford (PRH), The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) Community Diagnostics Centre(CDC) and Whitchurch Community Hospital.
We cover inpatients (PRH/RSH only) and outpatients at all 4 sites, providing a service for both GP's and consultants.
The Phlebotomy Department at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) have highly trained Phlebotomists with caring qualities and compassion for people. They have many years of experience in blood collection and cover in patients, outpatients and community across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.

Person specification
Education
* Evidence of a good level of general education including GCSE’s In Math’s and English grades 9 - 4 (or equivalent).
* NVQ Level 2 or equivalent experience
* First Aid certificate
* ECDL or equivalent
* Phlebotomy Competence certificate
Skills
* Ability to pay close attention to detail
* NVQ Level 2 or equivalent experience
* Experience of working as a phlebotomist
* Paediatric venepuncture experience
* Good written and verbal skills
* Good level of interpersonal skills with all age groups
