Job overview The NHS Mycology Reference Centre, Manchester offers a highly specialised diagnostic service primarily serving Manchester, the north of England and Scotland but also receives daily referrals from throughout the UK and beyond. We are looking for an enthusiastic, aspirational, and highly motivated Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our our well-established and friendly team, working within modern, well equipped, fully UKAS ISO15189 accredited laboratories. Candidates must be registered as a Biomedical Scientist with the HCPC and hold an IBMS specialist portfolio or have evidence of equivalent knowledge and experience. Extensive experience of working in an ISO 15189-accredited Mycology/Microbiology laboratory is essential. You should have good communication skills, be able to lead a team, remain calm under pressure, and be able to prioritise workload. The work requires excellent accuracy and attention to detail, and high levels of both concentration and manual dexterity. A flexible attitude is essential as is the ability to work to tight deadlines. To apply, you must currently be HCPC registered as a Biomedical Scientist, with experience of working in a Clinical Microbiology/Mycology laboratory. As a practical test is an important part of the interview process, interviews will take place face-to-face. Advert The post-holder will act as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist providing scientific services to patients and clients as an aid to clinical diagnosis of mycological disease. Utilising the appropriate testing, and in a timely manner, you will assist the Consultant Mycologist, and thus ensure the correct clinical diagnosis. You will perform a range of mycological technical and scientific activities, including testing samples referred from other NHS, private and UKHSA laboratories.
