Behaviour Support Mentor Location: Newcastle Working hours: 8am – 4pm (Monday to Friday) Long term, temporary contract Leader Education are proud to be recruiting for a Behaviour Support Mentor to join a committed and highly skilled team within a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Walker, Newcastle. This is a demanding yet deeply rewarding role, working with pupils from Key Stage 1 through to Key Stage 4 who present with significant behavioural challenges and complex needs. Many of the young people you will support have experienced barriers to learning, including exclusion from mainstream education, and may display behaviours that require a calm, consistent, and resilient approach. This role is best suited to a strong, emotionally resilient professional who can remain composed under pressure, confidently manage challenging situations, and build meaningful relationships with pupils who need structure, understanding, and unwavering support. You will play a vital role in helping young people regulate their emotions, rebuild trust, and re-engage with education—making a genuine and lasting difference to their futures. Key Responsibilities Provide consistent, firm, and supportive guidance to pupils with complex behavioural needs Confidently manage and respond to highly challenging behaviour, using effective de-escalation strategies Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils who may be disengaged or resistant to education Work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to deliver targeted 1:1 and small group interventions Support pupils in developing emotional regulation, resilience, and positive coping strategies Promote positive behaviour and encourage re-engagement with learning and school life Maintain a calm, controlled, and professional approach in high-pressure situations Leader Education can offer: • Competitive pay rates • Refer a friend or colleague bonus scheme: £100 per referral (terms apply) • A dedicated consultant to answer any queries and for ongoing support • Potential permanent contract after a qualifying period If you are resilient, confident, and passionate about supporting pupils with complex behavioural needs, this is your opportunity to step into a role where every day truly matters.
