Senior Buyer – FMCG (Discounter Sector)
Location: Leicester
Salary: £75,000 – £80,000
Working Pattern: 5 days per week, on-site

The Role
As a Senior Buyer, you will be a critical driver of category performance. This is a "hands-on" leadership role where you will be expected to move with pace to evolve ranges, unlock commercial opportunities, and ensure the business delivers compelling, value-led products.
* Lead end-to-end management of high-volume FMCG categories, with full accountability for sales growth and margin.
* Take direct management responsibility for a Buying Assistant or Junior Buyer, coaching and developing them to ensure a high-performing departmental culture.
* Develop and deliver clear category strategies aligned with the business’s aggressive UK expansion plans.
* Build and manage robust supplier partnerships, negotiating effectively to deliver best-in-class value and availability.
* Create customer-focussed ranges that reflect current market trends while maintaining a competitive price position.
* Work closely with Merchandising, Supply Chain, and Operations to ensure seamless execution across the store estate.
Your Skills & Experience
We are looking for a proven Senior Buyer with a strong track record within a discounter or value retail environment.
* Deep expertise in high-volume, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG).
* Experience in mentoring or managing junior staff (Assistant/Junior Buyer level).
* You are comfortable operating in a fast-moving, 5-day on-site retail model where decisions have an immediate impact on the shop floor.
* A sharp eye for profit and loss, with the ability to balance short-term trading wins with long-term category health.
* A heavyweight negotiator who can secure the best terms while maintaining sustainable supplier relationships
