Band 6 Assistant Service Manager - Cancer Performance

Applications are invited for a motivated and experienced individual to join our busy division as a Band 6 Assistant Service Manager based at our Barnet, Chase Farm and Royal Free sites.

You will manage an administrative team, providing up to date information on developments within Cancer Services and lead on supporting the monthly cancer waiting times data submission process.

You must have the ability to communicate with all the members of a busy clinical and operational team and be able to balance the demands of a fast paced and challenging role using a flexible and proactive approach.

You will work very closely with the Service Manager and Ops Manager for Cancer ensuring robust processes are in working order to support Cancer Performance and Patient experience.

Previous cancer service essential. Hospital based experience and experience of staff management are advantageous but training will be given.


Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen to play a crucial role in ensuring cancer care is delivered efficiently and excellently at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals, within the Royal Free London Hospitals Group (RFL).

The post holder will be responsible for leading a cancer multi-disciplinary team (MDT) administrative team between Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals and the Royal Free Hospital. The post holder will support the Service Manager in the operational management of the service, including providing leadership and expert guidance to the MDT team, and working closely with services to deliver improvements to cancer care. The post holder will be one of three Assistant Service Managers leading the MDT teams across RFL.

Education & Professional Qualifications

* NHS or other healthcare leadership training
* Degree or equivalent experience
* AMPSAR Medical terminology Certificate, or working towards Certificate


Experience

* Understanding of the concept of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) and MDT meeting in the context of cancer pathways
* Experience of working effectively in a team
* Knowledge of NHS cancer pathways
* Knowledge of clinical terminology relating to cancer
* Experience in an administrative role within the NHS
* Experience of maintaining a cancer registry system
* Experience of using electronic patient record
* Experience of attending and preparing MDT meetings
* Supervisory or line management experience
* Experience of collecting, analysing, and presenting complex data to inform service improvements


Skills and Aptitudes

* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to clearly communicate with staff at all levels
* Ability to problem solve
* High quality of written and verbal communication
* Typing, data entry and data manipulation skills
* Excellent level of computer literacy including word processing, spreadsheet, databases
* Experience of report writing and presentation of data
* Ability to take minutes and notes effectively
* Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
* Live typing in a meeting environment

£45,953 to £54,254 a year inclusive of HCAS
