Income Officer Location: North West Pay: Competitive Contract: Full-time, Temporary Start Date: ASAP We are currently working with a local authority in the North West seeking an experienced Income Officer to join their housing team. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to financial stability within the community by supporting tenants to sustain their tenancies and maximise income collection. The Role As an Income Officer, you will: Manage a designated patch of tenancies, ensuring timely and effective rent collection. Take early and proactive steps to prevent arrears through supportive engagement and income maximisation. Provide advice and support to tenants regarding rent payments, benefits (including Universal Credit), and budgeting. Agree realistic and sustainable repayment plans tailored to individual circumstances. Take appropriate recovery action in line with policy, including issuing notices and preparing court documentation where required. Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners such as Housing Benefit departments, the DWP, and financial inclusion services. Promote tenancy sustainment and reduce evictions through effective arrears prevention and early intervention. Maintain accurate records and case notes on all tenant interactions and actions taken. Produce reports and updates on arrears performance and case progression. About You The ideal candidate will have: Previous experience in income collection, arrears management, or housing finance. A solid understanding of housing and welfare legislation, particularly around rent recovery and benefits. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and manage challenging conversations sensitively. Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage a busy caseload. Experience using housing management systems and standard IT packages.
