An exciting opportunity has arisen within the team at Thomas Walker Westgate Healthcare. We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to join our existing team, in supporting the efficient operation of the Practice. The post holder will be compassionate and caring, able to work well on their own initiative as well as within a team environment and have the ability and drive to want to develop skills. They will work alongside other members of the team to support any activity which is required under the framework of general practice, the treatment room and nursing competency matrix.
Main duties of the job
* Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by the Lead Nurse and GPs
* Maintain good practice with regard to prescribing if qualified. Adhere to practice policy for audits and reviews of clinical practice
* Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings if required
* Cervical smears, pregnancy tests and contraceptive advice
* Chronic Disease Management where appropriate to skills
* Immunisations:
o Infant immunisation and vaccinations
o Travel health care advice and immunisations
* ECGs
* Removal of sutures
* Venepuncture
* Urinalysis
* Review of and understand/action pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs where appropriate
* Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
* Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate
* Housekeeping duties including, general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms
* Maintain accurate records
* Maintaining and cleaning equipment and maintaining GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required
* Ordering of drugs and stock and ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels where required
* Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post
* Attend and participate in any practice meetings when required
Other general requirements of the Post
Ability to use own judgment, resourcefulness and common sense.
An awareness of own limitations and experience.
Commitment to maintain a high professional standard of nursing care and keep up to date with all aspects of nursing care relevant to the post.
Commitment to ensure all Health and Safety requirements and Infection Control measures are met and to report any problems to the nurse manager
Commitment to the effective use of practice and NHS resources.
Cooperate with annual appraisal meetings and have a written professional development plan and to maintain an up to date portfolio which meets the requirements of registration with the UKCC.
Registration with the NMC.
Work only in accordance with the UKCC Code of Conduct and within the scope of professional practice.

Awareness of national standards of infection control and cleanliness and regulatory / contractual / professional requirements, and good practice guidelines
Awareness of the correct and safe management of the specimens process including collection, labelling, handling, use of correct and clean containers, storage and transport arrangements

Experience
* Experience of working in General Practice / Primary Care
* Experience of computerised recording systems, (ECG, 24hr BP, Spiro etc)
* Experience of working in accordance with the UKCC Code of Professional Conduct and The Scope of Professional Practice
* Experience of dealing with the public/patients
* Experience of SystmOne Clinical System
