Overview

Teaching Assistant

This is a Part Time Term Time Only position working 27.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per year

Salary: BTCT Point 3 (Actual starting salary: £15,225.47 per annum)

At West Somerset College, we are passionate about giving every student the best possible chance to thrive.

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, reliable and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our team. If you’re someone who wants to make a genuine difference in the lives of young people in our Minehead community, we’d love to hear from you.

What You’ll Be Doing

* Support students in lessons and small groups to help them stay on track and build independence
* Adapt activities and materials to suit a range of learning needs, including those with SEND
* Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing across the school
* Prepare learning resources and assist with classroom admin
* Track student progress and feed into lesson planning and reviews
* Build strong, respectful relationships with pupils, colleagues, and families
* Uphold safeguarding and wellbeing as a top priority at all times

What We’re Looking For

* A positive team player with a genuine desire to support young people
* Calm, flexible and able to adapt to a busy school day
* Confident using ICT and engaging with a diverse range of pupils
* Committed to inclusion, equality and professional integrity
* To succeed in this role, you’ll need strong literacy and numeracy skills (GCSE English and Maths at grade C/4 or above), along with experience working with children or young people.
* You’ll be a confident communicator, a team player, and comfortable using ICT to support learning.

While a Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning is ideal, we welcome applicants who are willing to work towards this. Experience in a school setting, particularly supporting students with SEND, along with familiarity with the national curriculum, would be a real advantage.

We believe in hiring for potential and this means that we value individuals for the knowledge skills and experience that they have developed in every aspect of their lives. If you don’t feel that you meet all of the criteria listed in the person specification, we would still encourage you to apply.
